Hi, it’s good to hear that you’re ok in these Covid times. Stay well. Hope your family’s also ok and that life’s not thrown too many spanners in the works.

I think I’ll wait until nearer the time, it won’t be until the end of this month, and see what’s happening with variants, travel, opening up, numbers etc. @Marie 2. I’m really sorry it’s become more prevalent in Hawaii. I think we T1s, who know how even a small brush with infective invaders...

But the bubble, surely, is medical equipment. Will it have been ticked as medical equipment on the import forms? It’s a nightmare. I’m hoping younger daughter’s birthday present, a Withings watch, falls between the medical and health lines, but how can the sender know that she’s prone to...

PS, younger daughter’s 39 again today. Wonder how old she’ll be before she can have a great big crowded 40th birthday party? On that note, it’s my turn to host the book club this month. There are nine of us, plus the husband of the one who has a glioblastoma in her brain. (A separate...

Younger daughter’s just texted to say her birthday present’s not arrived but the supplier’s message apologising and saying they got the Brexit paperwork wrong has. Is your bubble coming from the EU?

That’s not good! Have the docs given you more antibiotics too? Shame they had to argue rather than discuss, hope your thumb doesn’t become a battle ground for medics as well as bacteria and your immune system. Better start writing a left handed thriller.

I like mongrels, had a couple of them and they were lovely, but the possibility of ten of them’s definitely daunting!

Mornin’ all. Nothing much going on here, apart from digging out the old, very old, compost (my alter ego?). I had a good time doing it yesterday and found lots of fungi threads. Husband was out hitting a little white ball. I’ve put three wheelbarrow loads in the new bed and am hoping the...

How scary is living alone with type 1

Hi @Babyweed, T1 can be a challenge Ben when not living alone, but it can be more scary if there’s nobody to call out to when waking low. A Libre, and alarms, would be good: have you tried asking your consultant for one after the DKA and the hypo experiences. As JuicyJ implies, you could also...

    Exercise and weight loss

Hi @Laureeem, I’m sorry you’re having to deal with gastroporesis as well as T1, it must make things tricky for you. I wonder if the fluctuations in blood sugar are connected to an erratic absorption of glucose as a result of the gastroporesis? Were you given any strategies to make your stomach...

Hope you’re home and feeling a bit less diachallenged now @urbanracer, and your thumb’s healing.

After all the clouds yesterday, the sun eventually appeared: thank you whoever huffed strongly enough. It was ruddy freezing though! Just another ten days or so before second dose immunity strengthens then can’t wait to see more friends, it’ll take these little old grey cells into new things...

Covid vaccine and T1D, what are your views?

I had the second dose of the AZ last Friday. The side effects aren’t nearly as bad as after the first dose but I’ve had some high bloods. They’re back in range now and despite the side effects from the first dose I’d do it again as it sure beats the alternative. Covid’s not kind to T1s.

Good morning all. @urbanracer, experience shows it’s not just the pandemic that keeps we T1s away from going to a hospital, unless it’s for a clinic visit, and even then . . . Back when I was first assuming the mantle of an Outspoken Old Biddy I wrote to a couple of hospital managers and the...

At least someone had had the foresight to order some carb catching stuff for the Ward @urbanracer. Hope you’re out again in time for the coronation of your tooth.

I hope Mrs Urb packed a load of jelly babies with your kit when she bought it in. I remember having to tot all the carb up when it was in font of me when I had a knee replacement not all that long ago and there being very little to choose from that wasn’t high sugar, high fat: you’d think...

Have you been given your marching orders yet @urbanracer? If not then you need to give that thumb of yours, and your immune responses, a good talking to. Hope your blood sugars are smiling to show the infection’s diminished.

Good morning all. That’s just not fair of fate or the dog @Marie 2. Glad there’s nothing broken and hope any pain can be fixed with whatever you take in Hawaii. Tylenol? Here it’d be paracetamol. I think I’ll be out with the hose along the veg bed today, we’ve not had rain for ages now and...

COVID vaccine and extremely high blood sugars

Blood sugars are still swooping high two days after the second jab of the AZ, it’s really annoying as they’d just begun to settle well again although on higher doses of insulin than before the vaccine. It’ll be interesting to see if the increased insulin need is permanent though I’m optimistic...
