Good morning all, hope it’s a beautiful one everywhere. The sun’s shining brightly here @hh1 so cheerfulness is the order of the day. Second jabs are good. Still waiting for mine, another two and half weeks unless there are vial dregs to use and I get called. Husband’s got the vial dregs...

Oh dear, lack of faith in the system sometimes

I reckon we know so much about our own T1 or T2 that we can, in moments of stress, be astonished at how little others know. However, I always give great respect to any medic who says they don’t know something rather than try to bluff their way through for the sake of it. I suspect, too, that...

I love the way Lidl gives our taste buds a chance to travel further than we can right now. Which ones did you get? I’ve put a few slices of the moraie cheese on a veg concoction this evening, currently in the oven, but mustn’t forget to take the statin and the ace inhibitor. The nougat desert...

Good morning everyone. Had a great FaceTime with younger daughter this morning, feeling all today’s smiles arrived in one big surge. Saw older daughter on the weekend too before she and son-outlaw went away for a short ‘allowed’ stay in a holiday cabin in the New Forest. Older daughter’s dog...

Good morning Karen, good morning all. All that talk about the price of the libres is making me feel very very lucky to have it on prescription. I remember doing the rounds of places to see which sold it cheapest when I self-funded. I also remember finding out the difference between the cost...

    Why is Libre1 so inaccurate?

I’ve had the BG test cartridge (Accuchek Mobile) reduced to one a month too. The cost to the NHS of the double spend on test kit with strips/cartridges as well as sensors is, I believe, what lies behind this policy. Using an app or device that enables calibration has helped me improve the...

I use Fiasp, with half units, in a Novopen Echo. Admittedly, the wait for the drop before I eat isn’t always 10 - 15 minutes, but so many different things affect needs and uptakes that I’m not surprised it varies. I prefer it to Novoslow though. Happy Easter Cumbs, good to ‘see’ you.

T1 Insulin resistance since having covid

How nasty for you @PJWills. This is a very wily virus and I wish you good luck in finding a way to cope with its after effects. I’ve not looked at many articles, yet, to see if a change of insulin, infusion of stem cells, or other factors, help to fix post-Covid insulin uptake but maybe...

The first thing you Googled after your diagnosis ???

The internet wasn’t around in 1969, when I was diagnosed, and there were very few books as far as I could see from library searches. Instead the hospital handed me a typed sheet of ‘exchange’ values for a short list of foods and a small leaflet that told me I could lead a normal life. So I did...

    Anyone getting Libre 2 yet?

Which standalone watch were you using @Jaylee? I’m looking at what you’ve experienced as I’m expecting to be transferred to Libre2 and really dread having to reconfigure everything. I’m hoping I’ll still be able to use it with a Miaomiao and a watlaa.

    Libre 2 Alarms

I agree with @barrym, it’s helpful to set a low sugars alarm a little higher so you’ve time to sort it out, especially if you’re cycling; a hypo on a bike, on the road, isn’t a good idea. If your brain is impaired through lack of glucose, and your reaction time is slower, plus the risk of...

    Failing

6.5’s not just ‘not too bad’, it’s good. It’s very easy to get anxious and obsessive with T1 so I think we’ve all had our moments. It looks like you’re doing well though, and in time you’ll gradually get used to the way your own T1 behaves. The rollercoasters, though, make life tough, and I...

COVID vaccine and extremely high blood sugars

Did anyone see all the articles about the way real Covid raises blood sugars? No wonder we T1’s, and everyone with some kind of diabetes, is so vulnerable. I suspect those of us who have high blood sugars following the vaccine are experiencing immune responses.

Oh my, another Friday Karen, how they keep on rolling. I’ve been making contact with people I used to work with, some still working, and realise I sort of miss that Friday feeling. Off to pick up some cheap summer garden chairs from Argos and do a Lidl Greek week trip later. The sun’s shining...

COVID vaccine and extremely high blood sugars

It seems we all vary, as with anything T1. I’ve had days of unexplained highs too, even four weeks after the AZ. I’m not surprised by the number of us who’ve experienced an effect on blood sugar levels; it happens often enough with an infection hence sick day rules. The vaccines will be...

‘Arternoon all, not been here for a while, so just checking in. @Marie 2, how’s the recovery going after the horrendous floods and landslides? It’s just not what was needed with everything else that’s going on. Not much happening here. Husband’s just taken a load to the dump, in my car, under...

    Very high fasting numbers

Hi @singh1201, sorry you’re having trouble with your morning high. We’re not able to tell you what to do about it, and we’re all different so an analysis and solution that might work for one of us won’t necessarily work for others. It may be best if you consult your endocrinology doctor for...

    Frustration

I self-funded the libre for a year; I was prescribed it on the basis that using it had improved my control and HbA1c. It’s expensive and I was very lucky to be able to afford it though I did first spend a few months wondering if I could manage to. I decided to try one, see how it went and then...

Personal achievement 60 years Type 1

Congratulations @fiveamp! 60 years is brilliant! I expect that back when you were diagnosed there was a really low life expectancy for T1s, I know there was when I was diagnosed aged 20, in 1969, just a bit over 51 years ago. It used to give me the hebijebies, and so I lived to the full, and...

    Frustration

I can totally empathise with T1 frustration, it’s why some of us think living with T1 is like living with a toddler: unpredictable and time consuming. It’s really great when blood sugars are as close as possible to ‘normal’ but the fantastic effects of ‘normal’ on mood and energy bring with...
