    Loosing my hypo awareness

I know the positive induction stories seem few and far between! You never know women often go into labour earlier with 2nd baby! Blood sugars have been good not as tight as first time round but last hbac1 was 6.4 so not terrible!

    Loosing my hypo awareness

My team weren’t worried because I’m not suffering from night time hypos! I was induced at 38 weeks with first responded well and had him naturally next day he did weigh a whopping 9lbs and spent 24 hrs in nciu for low blood sugars but other than that was healthy! Just had 32 week scan and this...

    Loosing my hypo awareness

Yes! I lost mine very early on around beginning of 2nd trimester! My team said it may be because I pulled my blood sugars in so quickly! Never did in my first pregnancy either! Strange how 2 pregnancies can be so different!

    Breast feeding when diabetic

I exclusively breast fed for 6 weeks but expressed and gave him a bottle from 2 weeks so partner could help and bond with baby! I found breastfeeding difficult especially with all the hypos so started mix feeding at 6 weeks and went completely on to bottles at 12 weeks. There’s no right or wrong...

    Induction: what is it like?

I was induced at 38 weeks and was very lucky that I responded quickly to the first pessary given! I had my little boy 24 hrs after being induced! I went on sliding scale and I’m glad I did because I could concentrate fully on labour without having to worry about working out how much insulin to...

I’m lucky my team sound a lot more understanding than yours! Sounds like your doing everything you can and your highs can’t be that prolonged otherwise your hbac1 would not be so good! x

    Help [emoji22]

Hi there I am currently 22 wewks pregnant and my little boy is 22 months old (he will be 2 and 2 months when baby arrives!) I have struggled so much more this time! I think it’s because he takes up so much of my attention I can’t always teat as frequently as I did first time round! My hbac1 is...

    Correction doses

Hi Jodie-19 my diabetic midwife advised correction doses when pregnant as it's important to get sugars down a quick as possible when pregnant but as others have said be mindful of hypos! Skipping meals during pregnancy is not advised because you need to eat regularly when pregnant. It's possible...

    Seen GP... Now what?

Hi Pixelle, I contacted the diabetic midwife directly and then had weekly calls throughout. Because there was no complications I had my first scan at 12 weeks and saw the consultant at 13 weeks then a few more times throughout the pregnancy mainly after growth scans. The methods of care do seem...

    Breastfeeding

No my little boy latched on straight away although his blood sugars were still low even with the extra bit I'd expressed so spent first night in neonatal with a feeding tube I continued to express and then spent the next day feeding him inbetween the feeds through the tube - soon as tube was out...

    Breastfeeding

Hi Julie, yes I expressed and froze some colustrum then took it with me when I was induced - I went into the birthing unit week before and a midwife showed me how to do it and gave me some syringes to put the expressed milk into. Not all women are able to do this as some don't get their milk...

20 week scan on Wednesday feeling nervous..

Hi Tilly don't let them scare you! My hbac1 was 7 at conception but like you happened in holiday so had quite a few highs around that time! By 20 weeks I got it down to 5.3 then went up to 6.4 during third trimester! I had a perfectly healthy boy with no complications. Sounds like your doing...

    Hi all...

I packed 2 bags - one for me while being induced and in labour and and babies first outfit then one with all baby's stuff and clothes for me - we left second bag in car then switched them after baby was born this was really handy as there wasn't a lot of space in the ward xxx

    Missed miscarriage :(

Hi GemmaD sorry for what you are going through! The uncertainty at the moment must be very difficult! I had a miscarriage last year at 9 weeks although I had bleeding and cramps which did make it easier to accept! It's easy to think it's the diabetes but it could just be one of those things! I...

Steroids at 38 weeks & being admitted to hospital

Hi VO83 I was induced at 38 weeks but was not given steroid injections - I too was told I'd only need these if induced before baby was classed full term. I went on sliding scale - I was wary of this and queried but my diabetic midwife advised it and I'm so glad I listened once in established...
