    Fasting when on Insulin?

Basal will be needed as this is meant to keep you stable when fasting. Bolus is only to cover food so if you are eating less or missing a meal then reduce or miss the bolus too. If you only take basal insulin then I wouldn’t mess with your diet without talking to a dietitian first as you might...

Cycle Touring (living from a Pannier)

Camping. I do have a trailer too but was wondering if there were any specific LARGE bags for diabetes storage. I've seen twee little hand bags and filofaxes which are great for going out for the day but certainly not big enough to store a couple of months of pump and CGM supplies. I've got a...

Cycle Touring (living from a Pannier)

Has anyone else been long term cycle touring? I'm after hints and tips for carting pump and all the necessary cannula changes; CGM and all the necessary sensor changes; emergency long term insulin if my pump should fail (where to stash the stuff as I know what I need) all my normal insulin...

Lower blood sugars but higher cholesterol

“The great cholesterol con” by Dr Malcolm Kendrick is a good read. The research shows that cholesterol is actually quite good for you if you are a woman and are over 50. As long as you are getting decent protein and green veg for your vitamins and minerals don’t worry about it. This is written...

    Accu-chek Insight V Medtronic 640g?

I quite often can get my sensors to last 10 - 12 days (self funding, every little extra helps!) the signal will eventually start to drop out for a few minutes near the end of it’s life, but for me has stayed fairly accurate. The cost is a bit cheaper with one of the Medtronic offers. I use the...

    Steady But High Fasting Basal

My blood glucose has been high for a few weeks. It is very steady when I do a fasting basal test but sitting between 8 and 9.5mmol/L (144 and 171mg/dl). Any help? I have changed cannula/ insulin and am taking more than normal bolus insulin. Not feeling ill.

    Accu-chek Insight V Medtronic 640g?

I use Medtronics 640g. I’ve been using Medtronics for 6 years. I think this pump is the bees knees. It can be remotely accessed via the Contour Next Link 24 (blood testing kit). I was given one of these test kits with the pump. I can inject or bolus at 0.05 of a unit. (Not many syringes can do...

T1 Low Carb What Should I Know

Have you read 'Diabetes Solution' by Dr R Bernstein. It has a lot of good info in it.

    Low Blood Glucose Levels

I'd let them know what you are doing as they might be able to help with the reduction in dosing. (Beware that they may not like it!)

Basal Rate Peaks/valleys On Pump. Type 1

I use a Medtronic 640g and I have set a rolling mountain range with the Sugar loaf Mountain for the Dawn Phenomenon. The afternoon leads me into the Hypoglacial Valley. I try not to have too many giant leaps between steps but work my basal up or down as required for the day. I have to readjust...

    Its Not So Easy

Hi, welcome to the forum. What are you usually eating? It must be hard not being able to have the veg. Sometimes stalls in weight loss are only temporary and will last for a few days. Don’t forget to use a tape measure too as you may be building up muscle (which is heavier) but still slimming down.

    Read the flipping ingredients

I had sea bass with green veg (no added sugar) and my bloods have been 12.2 most of the day! Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason!

    Nutrition and cycling

Cake ! I did Lejog. Blood sugar stayed level if I had cake and coffee mid morning. You will use more sugar than normal so it gets used rather than floating around in your blood. Good protein meals in the evening.

Anyone following Dr Bernstein diabetic solution

but Bernstein states no caffeine. Not true. “remember there are no diabetes prohibitions on coffe or tea”

Just accidently ripped my cannula out

Done this too! The b**ger is that I have to test loads after each new cannula to make sure it is working as I get quite a few failures. (Not sure if it is user error!) sitting up late at night when I could be getting some sleep. Don’t you love having diabetes!

Have no idea what I'm doing

Injections get easier as you get used to it so don’t worry about that bit for the long term. (I’ve been practicing for 42 years). I would see if you can get more training as you seem to have been left a bit in the lurch and it’s not nice to worry. Pen style injection devices are easier imo. I...
