My story so far…. some of it!

Welcome to the forum. I hope the surgery does go ahead in December. I know the frustration of postponed procedures due to high HbA1c, although the weird thing is that if they have to they will operate. I was very unwell for 7 weeks which couldn't be diagnosed and because of a large lump from my...

How long have you been LCHF?

I've managed about 7 years. Don't forget that other things might change like the amount of insulin you produce and your insulin resistance. I think they are both useful things to know.

    Medication issues?

The current advise on self measuring BG given by NICE (https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng28/chapter/Key-priorities-for-implementation#blood-glucose-management) is as follows: Do not routinely offer self‑monitoring of blood glucose levels for adults with type 2 diabetes unless: the person is...

Covid/Coronavirus and diabetes - the numbers

In that they rely on a lot of imported stuff, especially now that Skype seems to have removed my user id and all my contacts and then set me up with another user id.

Covid/Coronavirus and diabetes - the numbers

Any island is easier to isolate because it's easier to close borders. Where did we go wrong. A PM who went visiting hospitals and boasting of shaking hands with covid patients. Not that there's evidence of him getting it from hospital, but that sort of attitude ignoring the danger of the...

Covid/Coronavirus and diabetes - the numbers

Wikipedia puts it at 1200 miles to Australia, still a considerable distance by our standards, but air travel, which NZ closed before lockdown, makes the distance between countries more of a level playing field.

Covid/Coronavirus and diabetes - the numbers

It might be fairer to compare cities like Auckland (1210 people per sq m), Christchurch (1275 per sq m), Wellington (1888 per sq m) to cities like Solihull (1205 per sq m), Sunderland (2,000 per sq m) and Leeds (1430 per sq m).

What are acceptable rises after eating

For me, it depends on what I've had to eat. Even a fried egg can cause a small blip (< 1) whereas a slice of bread can cause a larger jump of 5 or so. Except for my treat on Sunday when I will have a slice of toast I don't eat anything that is obviously carby like potatoes, rice, pasta, cake...

COVID-19: are you wearing a mask?

Edit (some info about Dr Will Jones: Will Jones holds a PhD in political philosophy from the University of Reading. He also has a Diploma in Biblical and Theological Studies. The original paper is written by academics in the Economics department, does that make them economists rather than...

HbA1c cancelled due to reagent shortage?

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/oct/07/nhs-coronavirus-tests-threatened-by-roche-supply-chain-glitch Might explain some of the problems. January 2021 is a date to put in you next diary. Who knows what is going to happen with drugs coming from the EU. At least the Roche problem mentioned...

Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

I seem to have started quite a debate on a local FB group. A lot of people going on about scaring kids (really?) and the importance of education but overlooking the feelings of the teacher. However, several replies from teachers mentioned that they felt it was their decision and not the local...

Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

It must depend on the school because we have a local school supplying 2 masks and a face shield to every teacher and then leaving it up to them to work out the practicality. Obviously, actual teaching is not practical and 2mdistance should be maintained. Other times this particular school...

Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

I have two friends who are teachers, one in Glasgow and one in Tunbridge Wells, I'm also aware of what's going on in the school that my neighbour's children go to. It's difficult to explain why the school of my friend just outside Glasgow (Junior) has had to send 2 classes home because of...

    Hbac1 result

That is brilliant news, well done. I looked up the word "remission" and it says Remission is either the reduction or disappearance of the signs and symptoms of a disease. The term may also be used to refer to the period during which this diminution occurs. A remission may be considered a...

I was trying to differentiate between a carb craving and a food craving. Just as well it's only bread for me.

Can anyone see the benefit of the U.K. setting up it's own standards for no other reason that we don't want to be European. Such as shame that we the British people have been well and truly shafted by a bunch of . . . . . .
