    Daily Intake

Drop all fruit! IMHO (at least for the first 6 months of the new regime and then very circumspectly afterwards). I used to love fruit smoothies and was encouraged by the hospital diabetes dietician - just led to mad BG swings. I also love cheese and oily fish which was great help in making the...

    Type 2 Gravy

Hi, I use Bovril as the basis for gravy. A good dollop, boiling water and some ground almonds if you want to thicken. Yummy!

Information on long term effect of teflon cannulas?

Hi Rianne, No I don't have fibromyalgia - I heard about it from the news when Kirsty Young left the radio programme she was host for, some of the symptoms sounded a bit like what you described. Hope the immunologist helps!

    The LibreLink Lie

Mine works fine with a Doro phone. However, I use the Libre reader most of the time, I see no reason to place all my reliance on 'smartphones' , prefer to use the dedicated hardware.

Information on long term effect of teflon cannulas?

Many sympathies. I know if PTFE is heated to extremely high temperatures and the fume inhaled it can give 'flu-like symptoms, but I have not heard of any issues at body temperature. If your joints are not showing signs of damage have the medics thought about fibromyalgia? Just a thought, not a...

    Background insulin

I changed to Tresiba from Lantus earlier this year. Much better control and hba1c figures. I recommend changing if at all possible. According to my medic, Lantus is an inferior insulin compared to the new ones, but the NHS won't change en bloc, just case by case.

    Afternoon sleepiness - any remedy

Agree with others, get rid of the rice if at all possible. It really affects my BGs dramatically, leading to elevated levels for extended periods (dunno why, a bit weird). As well as cauliflower; celeriac, carrot and parsnip all make good rice (don't overdo the carrot). If you have access to a...

    Dr Bernstein

Hi Doriscrisp, very good post - I couldn't agree more with your comment re the NHS diet of "eat what you want just inject more" Curiously, when my brother was diagnosed with T1 in 1960 the advice then was effectively low carb: eat lots of eggs, cream, gold top milk etc. Sommat has changed in the...

Anti VEGF injections vs laser for retinopathy

Hi Koalajane, The criteria will probably the the thickness of the macula, which increases as the oedema progresses. It is 400um on the OCT scan before injections are allowed by NICE. My previous consultant refused injections as my macula was 380um - my central vision at that point was rubbish. I...

    Improved insulin sensitivity in muscles?

Hi, wondering what your BGs are / were during the times of muscle pain compared with now?

Glad to hear of the improvement, hope it continues well. Just for interest, is it Eyelea?

    Freestyle Libre

Agree with the other postings. My phone has to be directly above the sensor - often get 'scan errors' with it. The Abbott reader is much more resilient. Sometimes get a message saying try again in 10 mins - usually it's working again after 5. I've had a couple of failed sensors (in three years)...

Anti VEGF injections vs laser for retinopathy

Hi BibaBee, Is your husband having Eyelea or one of the others? My experience was that there wasn't much improvement until the third injection. After that, there was noticeable improvement most months, though it did drop back once or twice. Once it seemed stable the time period was moved to six...

    Night time hypos

Hi, your symptoms are so familiar to me - in 1984. If I had marmalade and toast for breakfast I would have the shakes and sweats by 11:00. I managed to get my hands on a BG meter and I typically dropped to 2.5mM BG. In those days the Drs treated it as 'one of those things' and didn't know that...

Anti VEGF injections vs laser for retinopathy

I concur with Dark Horse, laser to correct vision (instead of glasses) adjusts the shape of the cornea by cutting parts of it away. Laser for retinal treatment doesn't affect the cornea or lens (the wavelengths of the two lasers is different, one heats the cornea, while the other passes straight...

Very rapid BG drop caused by Glargine

:) Easy Peezy! :) All the re-manoeuvering when you turn over must be a challenge :woot: BTW my Diabetes medic bod swapped me to Tresiba quite happily. She said it has better profiles then Glargine but it isn't NHS policy to switch everyone to a new medicine when introduced - which I can...

The latest rubbish from the media [emoji849]

I have been on a low carb diet for about 8 years (though, to be honest, not quite keto for the past five ;)) About a year in I did develop a detectable arrhythmia - this seems to have been down to too much strong coffee. I went decaff and after about 9 months my heartbeat returned to normal and...
