    Non diabetic Hba1c [emoji3]

Very well done! Something to ask your medics, are they sure it's Type 2 and not LADA? My symptoms were very much like yours (lean, v high BG) when I was diagnosed back in the mid 90s, when LADA wasn't really considered (still pretty rare to find diabetes staff who consider it now, IMO). I wish I...

Anti VEGF injections vs laser for retinopathy

If its diabetic maculopathy then anti-VEGF is allowed under NICE guidelines, but Drs may resist due to cost (terrible short-termism IMO). If its proliferative diabetic retinopathy then it isn't currently NICE approved, though could be prescribed 'off-label'. I have tried to persuade my...

    HbA1c disappointing!

That's a result I just dream of! I've been approx 9% for donkey's years, only down to about 7% this year due to my Libre sensor. Very well done!

    Advice please

I love peanut butter - I buy Meridian in 1kg pots. It is made from the complete nut (skin and kernel) and comes in at 11% carbohydrate - so approx 2g per portion. I would normally take that amount of carb into account - though I find it is very slowly digested so just the peanut butter on its...

Getting hypo alerts with libre, blucon and xDrip+

Gosh, I think you have been unlucky with the sensors or I have been extremely lucky. I check each new sensor readings with BG tests and they are always less then 10% out, usually a lot closer. Given a similar variability between a series of BG tests (one after the other) it is fine. The only...

Is my blood glucose attracted to 8mmol/L?

Very interesting - I have no solutions but some experiences of my own. I also use a Libre, but the readings are much closer to the BG then what you experience. I take Lantus at breakfast time (interesting thought by Draco to split it) and Novorapid with meals or to make adjustments. I find the...

    Freestyle Libre on NHS

As others have said, 10-12 blood strip tests per day at £15 per 50 strips (price for NHS) compared with £30 per sensor (Price for NHS) swopping to Libre would actually save the NHS money on the tests alone (I currently still do just one blood strip test a week for comparison). Factor-in the...

Anti VEGF injections vs laser for retinopathy

Thanks petdell. Good to hear about the success with retinopathy and good luck with the oedema. Can I ask in which part of the country you have had treatment? (just so I can mention this to my consultant). Andrew

Anti VEGF injections vs laser for retinopathy

Thanks Sally. Can I ask if it has been effective? Andrew

Anti VEGF injections vs laser for retinopathy

I have proliferative diabetic retinopathy and my consultant has done 6 sessions of laser treatment - it is now beginning to remove my peripheral vision due to the scarring. He refuses to allow anti VEGF injections as it is "not approved by NICE for this purpose" - though it is allowed for...

    FreeStyle Libre

Good suggestion - much less expensive then the 'Zoff adhesive remover wipes' that I have been using. Great tip! :-)

    Alcohol in Moderation

Good advice for us tipplers :-) Also congrats on the low carb diet - so much better then a low fat. Finally, excellent to see a reference to a gerund!!!

    FreeStyle Libre

Just a follow-up. My latest order for sensors is going to be delayed by about 10 days - "unprecedented demand.." apparently.. So are they actually being prescribed leading to stocks running low?? My current sensor runs out before the delivery so back to fingerpricks... :-(

    FreeStyle Libre

My experience is similar - they stick amazingly well as long as the skin is dry. The removal is quite painful unless I whip it off VERY quickly. (That being said, one did fall off overnight, the sticky patch was still anchored to my arm; it had detached from the sensor. Abbott replaced the...

    FreeStyle Libre

Hi There! I've been self-funding my Libre system since March this year - it has made a huge improvement to my BG control. I will be continuing with it - though I am retired and on a pension, I can't contemplate going back to 10 fingerpricks per day - especially as they are not particularly...

Got my NHS prescription for Libre!

Yes, typically 10 to 12. Strict rotation of sites and absolute minimum prick depth. About 15 years and still worked - fingers looked like a strange tattoo - fully recovered now, I have pretty thin skin so that possibly helped.

Got my NHS prescription for Libre!

Very interesting re the NHS costs for the sensor - I've been trying to find that info. Yes, my costs are based on the NHS indicative costs for strips. My GP thought the reader would be on prescription - I guess it'll take some time for the correct info to spread around the system. In my...

Got my NHS prescription for Libre!

Glad that some progress is happening on prescriptions, though so slow. I've been using libre since March and its made the world of difference to my BGs. My GP is happy for it to be prescribed but the local health board (W Wales) are dragging their feet with approvals, codes etc. I've just...
