Sudden change in insulin needs - scary [ type 1]

@bhk you're so right! Diabetes is one of the most illogical conditions out there. I wouldn't ever have said that for a hyper with ketones that you needed to eat more carbs in order to bring them down! (I know the reason why but it is illogical at face value). That advice from doctors isn't very...

Sudden change in insulin needs - scary [ type 1]

@Snapsy diabetes is all fun and games with how volatile it can sometimes be! How drastically your control can change.

Sudden change in insulin needs - scary [ type 1]

Have you lost any weight recently? I know insulin sensitivity can change with weight loss. You have been diabetic many years. Did you experience many problems through puberty and your teenage years? I have not long turned 18 (diabetic for over 10 years) but I struggle with insulin resistance...

    Confused

They may not be sure as there's an increase in the LADA strand of diabetes. Type 1.5 as it's also known. My partner has the LADA strand and still uses an insulin pump. Slow onset can give mixed results as it isn't type 1 but it also isn't the same as type 2. Maybe that's why your doctor has said...

What's the lowest hypo value you're ever had?

May strike you as a good argument however the pump systems have many advantages. More baggage is the least of my concerns. It's a subjective element. My preference happens to be pumps.

    Pain when injecting

Hi there! In Leeds, UK, we really endorse the use of pumps. My HbA1c wasn't problematic, and probably didn't warrant me getting a pump but I struggled with dawn phenomena. So in the end I managed to get myself the Omnipod. And it gave me my life back. My boyfriend hated giving injections to...

    Heat/hypo warning..

Heat does play havoc with BS! I'm one of the lucky, or unfortunate ones, where it takes this extreme heat for my sugars to be in range due to extremely high insulin resistance from having diabetes through puberty and my teenage years (I'm 18 now). Ah well. Enjoy our British summer guys!

What's the lowest hypo value you're ever had?

Depends on your regime. With the pump I'm on, I need a lot more equipment than most. The Omnipod warrants a lot more to carry around all the time in case a pod fails or alarms...

What's the lowest hypo value you're ever had?

That's a really good way of looking at it. I see it that I'm the same as everyone else, I just have to be more prepared and organised. Carry a bag with me instead of just my keys and my phone like most of my friends. It shouldn't matter that we're diabetic. We still do everything the same :)

What's the lowest hypo value you're ever had?

Aw thank you :) I don't see the need to let our condition stop us from doing anything. If we let it stop us, we'd never get anywhere. That's no way to live. We are strong as we deal with so much that is often hidden yet we carry on. Diabetes frustration does happen from time to time. I still get...

    sex and hypos

This is a very old thread but I'm adding to it because diabetes.co.uk tweeted about it. I'm 18 and have had type 1 diabetes for the last ten and a half years. My boyfriend is also diabetic and he has been so for two and a half years. Him and I have been together for over a year and needless to...

What's the lowest hypo value you're ever had?

Hi all! I've been diabetic now for the last 10 years (aged 18 and diagnosed at 7). The lowest reading I've ever had is 1.6 just after I got placed on a pump. I treated it with Lucozade and biscuits (whatever was in the cupboard at the time!). I can say that I have had many hypos across the...

has any type 1 ever managed to lose weight while on Insulin

I have been a type 1 Diabetic for over 10 years now. At almost 18, I can say I'm happy with my weight. I'm 5'6" and weigh 72.5kg. It isn't necessarily your weight you should be worried about. It's about how you feel in yourself. I eat things in moderation. I haven't cut anything out of my diet...

    my recent average

Hi there. It's good to see that you're working out daily averages for yourself. It's a good way to check up on your control. Does your testing machine have on it a function that'll tell you your average? I know that there are some on the market that do tell you what your average is itself. In...

Pump but can't get blood sugar down

I agree with the advice given so far. I would start with that to see if that helps your control in any way. However, you may not have thought of this - have you tried a trial of metformin as well as your insulin? I've been stuck in a rut for ages with my BG control and my HbA1c; neither of them...

    Insulin injections

Levimir has a different pH to that of blood; it is slightly acidic. This is the cause of the pain and to reduce the pain, I would split your dosage into two smaller ones. It is also the same for those using Lantus. I discovered this about 5 years ago when I used to be on injections and I had...

    Type 1: High readings

Hi @SaraWalker7392 Is your daughter treated by insulin pump or through injections? And how old is she? Through teenage years, particularly puberty, I know from personal experience it can be very hard to control BG readings. I wouldn't worry as such. Worrying can increase BG readings which...

    Pump or no pump?

Hi Tom. I have seen both sides of the coin: injections and insulin pump. I spent six and a half years on injections, then changed to a pump. Not once have I looked back. I use the Ypsomed Omnipod pump and for nearly four years now it has changed my life. So much more freedom and choice. No...

    Confused sugar levels in drinks

Hi there! I wouldn't be worried by that at all. 2.5 grams of sugar won't affect your glucose levels that much I promise you. It's something to be aware of, but it's almost none existent. Don't drink a lot of it otherwise it adds up. If you're only having one though, it's negligible. Hope...
