T2 and Erectile Dysfunction - Metformin, sulfonylurea, diet, testosterone

I have just stumbled on your post - I'm happy to share! I'm 60, diagnosed T2 in May 2019, 51/6.8%, I live on a small island that isn't part of the UK but is near it! I have with diet and exercise only reduced my A1c to 36/5.4%, lost weight from 14st 6lb to 12st 2lb. I however have suffered...

    Diagnosed Abroad

I wasn't as high as you when diagnosed (looking for causes of lethargy and erectile dysfunction), 51/6.8%, but well overweight at 5-10, 14st 6lbs, all in the wrong place, around the middle, skinny frame really. GP wasn't really keen on diet alone, but was agreeable to 'see how it went' for 3...

    Some Good News

A little update. Still having wild swings of BG (3.6 - 9.9), diet and exercise regime unchanged - I have not been able to nail down what is going on here yet as nothing - absolutely nothing - has changed in diet or exercise. Weight loss still OK, trickling off but I am only 4 pounds off...

    Some Good News

Still no meds, not needed as my A1C is 36 now. Today I was 3.8, 3.6 and 4.4 through the day, and shaky - food the same as usual, nothing changed. Most odd. Had salmon and salad for dinner, and I'm 9.9! No carbs - what gives? Oh hang on, - pickled beetroot. Diabetes is odd indeed.

    Some Good News

Only the body is 60 - the head is 17! Interesting comment about the sensitivity to insulin. I used to get reactive issues fairly frequently, but haven't for some time - possibly the amount of time I was developing type 2??? Food (low carb of course) for thought indeed.

    Some Good News

Just a little addendum to this, this week I have twice verged on hypo, with 3.8 and 3.6 BGs when tested after feeling a little shaky - so not false hypo but the real thing. Hmm, not sure at all what that is about, so will mention it to my GP in January when I next see him. Diabetes - gets more...

    Some Good News

I don't think there's anything that hasn't been checked out! Iron, B12, Thyroid, kidneys, liver, prostate (both methods!) you name it, he's run the bloods for it. At least it gave me a good MOT which is no bad thing at this age. I have lost almost 2 stone now too, and am more active, but...

    Some Good News

I did say 'and not a lot of it'! I mix the brown/wild rice, when I have it, with cauliflower rice to pad it out, but I seldom have any rice or pasta types at all. I do test regularly and know what will give me a high spike, and thus avoid it as much as I can, but I take your point about...

    Some Good News

I'm relatively new around here, and have been missing for a while due to some real log-in difficulties which admin @DCUKMod has kindly persevered with and sorted for me. Anyway, less waffle and get to the point Neil! I was diagnosed in May at 51/6.8% HbA1c so not badly diabetic but enough to...

    BG self-testing

As a relative newbie, (diagnosed May 19) and having achieved a reduction in HbA1c from 51 to 36, I could not have done this without a meter. I tested 3 times a day at first, and quickly learned to avoid rice, pasta and potatoes! Yes, low carb high fat works for me, (10kg weight reduction also...

Type 2s: How long did it take to get HbA1C below 42

At diagnosis: May 19, 51/6.8% Low carb diet, no cake or biscuits, no sugar in coffee, more exercise, no meds, lost 10kg,..... July 19 , 41/5.9% Kept exercising, a little more weight loss, wasted a day at DESMOND (LOL) still no meds..... Oct 19, 36/5.4% Happy at that. The diet can be a...

Type 2 hypos - no meds

Yes, but as I said, I previously had the exact same meal without a particularly large spike, in the region of 7 or 8 - an increase I considered acceptable anyway for an occasional treat. It was a miserable small portion of the mixed rices. I don't often have it. White bread and pizza bread...

Type 2 hypos - no meds

Ah OK. I was 6.5 at the next check (worried so did an extra), 4.8 next before dinner, then, errrrr had a home made curry with half jasmine ice half cauliflower rice (all had before with no issues) and spiked to 10.2! Settled back to 5.6 by morning. Confusing condition, diabetes!

Type 2 hypos - no meds

Two out of three there as it happens, you're spot on - a mild cold and had the flu jab the day before. Wasn't aware they'd reduce BG? I did say my BG went to 5.6 after addressing it.

I do OK on bite size shredded wheat, but I know some others don't! Worth a try.

    Erectile Disfunction

I have written about this before here, but I too suffered with not being able to maintain an erection. This was before I discovered I was T2, but I am lucky in that Viagra works quite well for me, with only minor side effects of blue-y vision and feeling 'stuffed-up' for an hour two afterwards...

Type 2 hypos - no meds

It happened again. Usual breakfast, exactly as I have every day other than a glass of V8 juice, which is vegetable not fruit and almost carb free. By 11.45 felt shaky, did a test, 3.6! Surely the V8 juice wasn't to blame, I wasn't active at all, it just....happens occasionally. One chocolate...

Type 2 hypos - no meds

I was reading this thread with interest a couple of days ago. Left it at that, read other threads, as you do. This lunchtime, after having the same breakfast I always do, felt a little....shaky....so did a test - 3.8. Why? Not ill, T2 with no meds managing well (A1C 41/5.9 last time...

Can you pinpoint the day your pancreas failed making insulin?

I think there is some mileage in this. A friend years ago became T1 after being assaulted badly. I developed T2 after almost losing a foot in an accident and two rounds of subsequent (and painful) surgery. Smashed feet are a bad thing!

    Another slightly freaked out newbie

I find wholemeal pitta to be OK, usually! I hardly drink alcohol, and certainly not mid-week so that wasn't an issue.
