Teenage son won't do his insulin

How about going to a local gym or sports team and try to find out if there is a member there who is diabetic and managing it well. It could help to show your son that being diabetic needn't stop him doing stuff and living an interesting life. The diabetic rebellion seems to be common with...

    HbA1c of 38

I am T1 with an HbA1C of 42 and I am definitely diabetic in 3 short acting and 1 long acting injections daily. I work hard at my diet, exercise a lot and all other results are good I get the odd high reading (it happens!) but my averages are good. Proves there are no hard and fast rules with...

    Costa Coffee Toast

I've always thought the Costa wholemeal toast was two big slices of bread and quite thick so I'm wary of having that for lunch

    Type 2 Newly diagnosed, help!

I have an Accu-Chek Aviva, the test strips may be more expensive but the meter gives you 7, 14, 30 and 90 day averages which is brilliant and ties in with my HbA1C results. Good for you in being so proactive, well done and good luck

Lost bs testing kit in foreign country!

You may have to buy a different by meter so make sure you buy enough test strips too

Newly Diagnosed and travelling to India

One thing I would suggest is buy 2 Frio wallets and take spare insulin pens, a spare BG meter and anything else you need to manage your diabetes, including spare batteries for both BG meters. If a meter fails you may not be anywhere that you can buy another one and the same meters ate essential...

Has anyone here been a diabetic for more than 40 years?

I was diagnosed December 1979 and have been on insulin for all but a few months since then. I decided to look after myself and I run a few times a week (slowly!) and do Pilates and yoga. I also walk a lot. I'm very strict with my diet but I travel quote a lot and am enjoying my life. I had...

    Help please

If you can, buy a wrist blood pressure monitor and check your BP at home. My BP is low when I check at home, different story at the GP surgery, good old white coat effect. If your BP is fine at home you can resist taking medication. Good luck

    Very low blood sugar reading

Seriously, make sure you always have dune wine gums or something similar in all your coat pockets, just in case. You are lucky to still be upright so please don't take chances, for your sake

explaining what it's really like to live with Type 1

Can I suggest diabetics contact the Independent Diabetes Trust or IDDT. I found this charity two years ago and for an annual donation they will send you a pack about T1 or T2 diabetes. I'm T1 for 39 years now and it was the best information I have ever been given on Diabetes . Their updates...

    Weird...

It's 5 days of sensible eating and 2 days of fasting, keeping down to 800 calories, some at breakfast then day 500 in the evening meal. Google Michael Mosley's 5:2 diet

High blood sugar after low GI breakfast

Have you tried having porridge for breakfast or is that not possible at work? Have you tried having breakfast before you leave for work so any activity getting to work will help to keep your BG down?
