Anonymous Question Should blood tests be fasting all the time?

If the test is for his doctor to use when prescribing a change of regimen, then fasting or two hours after meals is likely to be the requirement. The doctor or nurse will advise the time required. He should do as they direct. If the test is using his own meter at home to help him improve his...

    Breakfast when Low Carb

I hope you discover some good breakfast ideas. This morning I had my "Half-Full English" breakfast: a full English without all the carbs. A pork sausage with a mushroom cap, half a small tomato and two eggs fried in the sausage fat. Usually I add bacon to that, but I forgot to go to the butcher...

    Boiled v mashed potato

My scientific research is on a sample size of n =1. Myself with my meter. It told me that a golf-ball-sized scoop of mashed spuds has pretty much the same effect as a boiled or baked spud of similar size on my one-hour post-meal test result. It also told me that exceeding golf ball size would...

As I'm T2 I'll leave further suggestions to the T1s. Just one point before I go. When I was first diagnosed I bought Bernstein's book. This chapter made a lot of sense to me: The Laws of Small Numbers

Others have commented on the A1c. Cholesterol looks great to me.Your trigs/HDL is 0.9. Read this to see why I think that is excellent: Ratio of Triglycerides to HDL Cholesterol Is an Indicator of LDL Particle Size in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes and Normal HDL Cholesterol Levels. That means...

    Such Different Readings

Do you? Which targets do you work to? I gave my reasons for tighter targets in the answer which followed. However, YMMV always applies and your targets appear to be fine for you. Your nutritionist is incorrect apart from rare extremes or those using certain medications, particularly...

    Diet Soda, Fruit Juice substitute?

The link did not work for me. Nor does one on that post I gave you, but I hope you read it anyway. Mercola, in my opinion, is like the stopped clock which is right twice daily but wrong the rest of the time.

Beer may be sugar-free, but it is definitely not carb-free. The average pint is between 10 and 22 gms carb. I have found several good low carb beers in Australia. if you like an occasional beer, look for your local low carb varieties or drink as a snack between meals.

Do you think astrology could help us?

I'm so grateful you posted this. It gives me that warm, fuzzy, togetherness feeling. It is wonderful to see that we in Oz are not alone in the world and other nation's parliaments also allow nutters to not only stand for election, but to actually be elected. Incidentally, the answer to "Do you...

    Yes I am cured !!!

Many congratulations on gaining excellent control. I wish that did mean you are cured. I find it easy to remind myself a cure is yet to be discovered. All I have to do is test an hour after a foolish high carb meal.

I've recently been diagnoised as gloucose intolerent, but have many symtoms of diabetes, confused?

The best advice I can offer is to act like you have been diagnosed with diabetes whether or not the doctors agree. If you aren't diabetic the worst that can happen is you'll punch some holes in your fingers and eat healthier. If you are diabetic a change in your lifestyle now may have...

Well, you did ask for it... Read these US statistics for some rather frightening motivation: National Diabetes Statistics Report, 2014 I do not believe these statistics apply to pro-active diabetics who work to maintain good control. But for the rest of the diabetic population:
