    Breakfast when Low Carb

Wrong. There is always time for cooking. It takes just a couple of minutes to cook a rasher of bacon and fry an egg in its fat. Even less to make microwave scrambled eggs. Plan ahead a little and have a stew or quiche in the freezer which can be re-heated in the microwave while you're in the...

    Metformin and alcohol

The alcohol may be the least of his problems, provided he isn't alcoholic. I've highlighted the important issues. He needs to have a darn good look at his menu to reduce those blood glucose levels.

    High bg in the morning.

This is not a solution but it may help you understand what is happening: I Ate Nothing! Why Are My BGs high? That is the reason for glycogen release; Somogyi is a bit different.

    Blood Sugar Readings

Please consider this technique: Test, Review, Adjust If you are not sure of your peak post-meal timing start with one hour after your last bite. Start with a goal to stay under 8; later, as you start achieving that easily, you might revise that lower.

    Such Different Readings

Please consider it. I think you may be wasting strips and getting a false sense of security at two hours.

    Oi! G'day from Brizvegas Australia

Drop in if you wander down this way. We might have a low-carb beer together. I'm downing a Hahn's SuperDry atr the moment: 4.6% alcohol, reasonable taste, 3gms carb per stubby.

    Hi everyone!

G'day Dianne. Let your meter guide you to a better way of eating for better blood glucose levels. I notice you don't appear to test. Please obtain a meter and some strips and start.

Don't involve yourself in the blame game.

I aim to never exceed 8mmol/l and try hard to stay under 7 at any time. I won't pretend I always succeed, but more often than not. My usual peak is about one hour after the last bite.

    What to do with "Sugars"?

I know why "is it is not recommended in the UK unless in extreme cases." I consider that disgraceful. You will find my reasons in the BMJ rapid responses to the paper being used by the NHS so often these days to justify that nonsense. If you browse through the other responses to that terrible...
