Anyone stopped medication against Doc/nurses advice?

Thank you all for your helpful replies. I think Dr & nurses are tied by NICE guidelines - if LCHF isn't on there, then they can't comment or advise it. So it really just boils down to eating as little sugar or carbs as possible, to get there!

Anyone stopped medication against Doc/nurses advice?

I've been on Metformin for 2 months - that should be long enough to see if I can tolerate it? I've not been able to really eat healthily or even try lo carb as any veggies make my stomach 10000 times worse. But now, because Met isn't deemed enough, I'm having to take something extra (not sure...

Anyone stopped medication against Doc/nurses advice?

Hba1c was 93 on 1 Sep, to be tested again in Dec. Blood glucose was 9.7, but I always seem to be high first thing in the mornings!

Anyone stopped medication against Doc/nurses advice?

I have been testing my BG at home, but the nurse said not to take much notice, as it's the Hba1c they do, which only counts! Presumably the lower I can keep my BG, the lower the Hba1c will be?

Anyone stopped medication against Doc/nurses advice?

Thank you for your replies. I suppose what I'm really saying is I don't have the guts to go against 'professional' advice - they should know best etc.! My blood sugars are around 6, before eating. But in a bit of a catch 22 situation, as any 'good' stuff, vegetables etc. just goes straight...

Anyone stopped medication against Doc/nurses advice?

Hello I was diagnosed type 2, a couple of months ago, and put straight on Metformin - which is permanently screwing my stomach - even the slow release ones. My nurse has been adamant, on day one & again today that I can't control with diet & exercise - and won't let me even try! As well as...

Newly Diagnosed As Type 2 & Feeling Alone!

Hello Has anyone else had any differences in readings using the SD codefree machine? I tested tonight before eating and got 5.5 - I was so shocked (but pleased!) i re-tested, using same blood/finger & got 6.1 ! Then re-tested using different finger & got 5.7?

Newly Diagnosed As Type 2 & Feeling Alone!

@paganlass - wow, that's really good - well done. My sugars were down to 6.8 just before dinner last night - but by that time I felt really ill, heart palpitations & dizzy - so had to have some juice! Not sure why, as that's not considered to be too low! If you can keep your blood sugars...

Newly Diagnosed As Type 2 & Feeling Alone!

That's the one thing I can't eat anymore - boiled, fried or scrambled eggs. Gives me a worse stomach ache than the Metformin! [emoji15]

Newly Diagnosed As Type 2 & Feeling Alone!

Thank you all for your advice. I seem to be stuck in the mindset that eating more fat = getting fatter & weight gain! But I need to eat something to get some energy back - so will give it a try. Is full fat milk ok as a drink?

Newly Diagnosed As Type 2 & Feeling Alone!

Thanks Nigelh. At the moment I've only cut out crisps, sweets & chocolate & barely have any energy - so too scared to go any further with bread, pasta etc - in case I can't get out of bed! But will try eating more fats.

Newly Diagnosed As Type 2 & Feeling Alone!

Hi @cusally Metformin has made me ill, every single day, since I started taking it - but my Dr just says it will take time for your stomach to get used to it. I'm not sure how long that should be - weeks/months! It takes a lot to upset my stomach & it's very debilitating. My blurred vision has...

Newly Diagnosed As Type 2 & Feeling Alone!

@Mbaker. 2 weeks of Metformin and cutting down on the '****' I used to eat, my blood sugar is now around 10 :-) My PN is now not coming back for weeks, so am somewhat doing this alone! Perhaps that has done me a favour as I would probably have been on insulin by now! Saw a Dr recently, who, by...

Newly Diagnosed As Type 2 & Feeling Alone!

Thank you Enclave - this has given me some hope. [emoji1] The nurse said I would never be able to control it with diet alone as my sugars were so high. Am trying to get it as low as possible before my next appointment.
