How can I manage my diabetes better?

Hi Ifejoy, Sorry to hear you are having a bad time, lots of us have good and bad days. Firstly, can you let us know a little about your diet. Do you follow a low carb diet or not. Do you test your blood glucose with a meter and if so, what sort of readings do you get. Also can you tell us your...

What is your 3 month average bg reading?

My 3 month average from my meter is 6.7 which equates to 40.5, mysugr app is 39.6, but my latest HbA1c result was 45. So, it's not completely accurate. My readings have been higher recently, don't know why but hopefully it will settle down soon.

Type 2 Type 2, on Metformin, offered insulin

Sorry I can't advise you as I'm not on insulin. I do take metformin and do a low carb diet. May I ask if you have tried low carb? I'm sure others will be able to give you their advice on insulin.

The base is made of PORK!

I've tried this and I think it tastes good especially since I haven't eaten pizza for over a year!! I only had quarter as I like to keep the carbs as low as possible. I had mine with a salad. It didn't raise my sugars so it's a hit with me.

    Insulin resistance

It appears to me that you sound very angry and upset, correct me if I am wrong. I do not think anyone on this forum is telling lies or bullying. Yes, they are very passionate on their views but they are only sharing what has worked for them. No one has to act on their advice. Personally, I...

    Reccomendations for occasional Beer

I quite like the skinny beer from sainsbury's. Tesco also stock them. The other one I have is Marston's Resolution which you can order on line from their website. I think they are about 2grams per bottle (275ml). Maybe try it and see what you think. They are 4.6% alcohol.

    extreme tiredness

Before I was diagnosed I was constantly tired. Infact, it wasn't so much feeling tired but more like I had no energy. That's why I went to the doctors in the first place. I also went low carb / high fat immediately and as I got my sugar levels down my energy levels increased. I still feel tired...

Are you on the metformin slow release. I'm on those, 2 in the morning, 2 in the evening.

Type 2 - anyone else depressed by diagnosis, and feel extreme guilt and shame over food?

I'm sad how you feel about yourself. I understand the shock of being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I think most people do. You say you blame yourself because of your food choices. Well don't. It's very sad that most people (including doctors) assume that anybody who get type 2 diabetes has...

low carb and blood sugars 9.5 can anyone help

Hi Sandsan, I would ditch the porridge, too carby, try bacon, egg, tomatoes, high fat sausage and mushrooms. I have full fat greek yoghurt with cream and a few raspberries for breakfast. Keep clear of low fat as they have more sugar in them (weird, I know). Are you referring to baked beans, if...

    No guidance

Hi Josie, It's good that you are monitoring your blood sugars. Basically, it's about cutting out high carb foods or most carbs to be honest. Have a look at diet doctor website. It's full of some great advice and recipes. Can you let us know what your typical day's diet is, what do you have for...

Meh! I've had it with all this palaver

Good to hear you are taking your meds tomorrow. That's a really good start. Don't forget to test on a regular basis until you get your levels to a reasonable level. As for the food choice, chicken is great but potatoes have to go, for now at least. Do you like raspberries with cream or low carb...

The first Easter (or other seasonal food-related holidays) as a diabetic

I just say thank you but no thanks, I'm trying to be healthy. I always think that people feel awkward when they are indulging in things which they know isn't particularly good for them. For example, if you go out for a night with friends or family and you decline a drink they try to persuade you...

Meh! I've had it with all this palaver

Really pleased your'e a tiny bit better. O.k so you find it hard to resist bread, rice etc. In that case why don't you buy the lower carb bread and you can get low carb rice in Morrisons or no carb rice in Holland and Barrett. To be fair, rice doesn't really taste of anything, it's the flavours...
