Does anyone find that milk puts up blood sugar?

I did that two days ago to deal with a hypo!

Prediabetic BG but underweight, seeking advice.

Wow. Your situation sounds so very complicated and I'm glad you're finally having the doctors take your situation more seriously! I can totally see how in a certain pancreas/liver/stress hormone relationship that very low carb could make your blood glucose just keep going up. I'm mean, that's...

Prediabetic BG but underweight, seeking advice.

Thanks for this book recommendation. I'm interested in reading this. BTW, I also cope much better with carbs in the morning. I'm currently experimenting with having dinner very early (4pm) to see if that helps my FBG.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Absolutely for me (and many others). The simplest explanation that I've found is that it inhibits the liver from performing (as much) gluconeogenesis.

What are your best tricks to get your fasting blood glucose down?

Thank you for these suggestions!! I am going to try all three of these! I have been low carb (in this 50-75g/day range) since July 2018, so well over a year. However, there is a catch here. Until April 2019 (209 days ago) I drank wine EVERY day. My story is an interesting one about the...

What are your best tricks to get your fasting blood glucose down?

My fasting blood glucose remains stubbornly between 5.5 and 6.1mmol/L (on 50 - 75 g/carb/day). My postprandials became very healthy over the past 12 months, but my baseline blood glucose between meals and at night is always around 100 (5.5mmol/L). My CGM shows that my blood glucose remains...

NEWBIE-NEED HELP AND ADVICE PLEASE ON DIET AND BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS

What do you try to get your blood sugar down to before bed? I go to bed at about 100 and it stays at 100 or a little higher all night..... It's frustrating for me that my fasting blood glucose stays prediabetic.

    "Eat to the meter" contemplation

I totally agree. I've been finger-pricking for years (I even did a few days of literally testing every hour all day long), and I STILL have learned far more with just one week with the Dexcom!!!! Biggest news - I have reactive hypoglycemia. Jaw-dropping shocker for me. The drops and...

    "Eat to the meter" contemplation

I actually don't know if this is the case! I have dairy (yogurt and cream) every single day, and definitely I am struggling with my fasting blood glucose measurements. If I have to give up dairy though, I will seriously be mourning. It would be, emotionally, the most difficult dietary change...

    Questions about RH and suggestions

I was diagnosed with prediabetes and chronic kidney disease about 18 months ago and so I decided to eat low carb. I lost over 20 pounds/9kg . I'm now BMI 22. My fasting blood glucose remains stubbornly pre-diabetic although my post-prandial blood sugars are now well under control. I have been...

"Hit job" published in JAMA on ketogenic diet - (read author's disclosed "conflicts of interest")

I think this is very key! I am prediabetic and learned a good lesson yesterday. I tried something called "keto bark" (I normally don't eat processed foods) and despite only having 2 net carbs, my blood sugar went up 30 points. I was not happy! I even left a polite 3 star review on Amazon -...

    "Eat to the meter" contemplation

It might be overkill, haha, but I am a physiology professor by trade, so the idea of experiments gets me all drooly. I was thinking how fun it would be to show my students my data and have them analyze it as a class. Buying one could be like a Christmas present for someone like me. :-) But...

Meat effect on fasting blood sugar

If you are noticing something, then I think you should keep testing this. If it turns out to be true, then something is going on that makes you need to back off one or all of those 3 variables (protein, sat fat or low carb). I know it seems counterintuitive - so many people do swimmingly well...

HbA1c won’t respond to Low Carbs, weight loss nor exercise

Hi there! First off, I think a round of applause is in order for the huge lifestyle changes you have made. You are working hard and it can feel so disappointing to not see those numbers respond. I have a couple thoughts: 1. A1C readings have a margin of error of about 6! So it's possible your...

I am in the U.S. I know that insurance won't cover it, but if I can get a prescription I can pay out of pocket.

    "Eat to the meter" contemplation

That makes a lot of sense, especially for people that are just starting out and maybe overwhelmed by all the information and expectations. And I guess for many people that is all the info they need in order to get their glucose measurements to come way down.

    "Eat to the meter" contemplation

I'm convinced! I'm going to work with my doctor to get the prescription, then let the data glut begin! :-)
