    After One Year

Many thanks for this. The euphoria in me is quite recent. A few weeks back I was contemplating writing an appeal for help here as no matter how hard I dieted and walked, my weight seemed more likely to go up than down. Then suddenly 5 more kilos slipped away just when I least expected it...

    After One Year

This week sees the ending of my first year on a low carb diet. The past six months have been a challenge with my body sometimes struggling to fatten itself up again and me desperately resisting, and a long slow plateau in which my weight sometimes went up a bit, and where I did well if I...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

4.8 mmol this morning. No medication. Normally around 5.2 or so but last week touched 6.2 mmol once. Not sure how to respond to this reading after my doctor suggested that my blood sugar level was a bit too low. But presumably eyes and kidneys like the lower figure.

Seven months into the low carb diet...

Thanks...I will consider intermittent fasting very seriously. You seem to have got down to the sort of weight that I would like to reach.

Seven months into the low carb diet...

I wrote a post yesterday after seeing my doctor at the nine months point but that message seems to have vanished, so for anyone who is interested, here is an update. Weight loss -- another four and a half kilos. Not the original speed but it continues. Total weight loss :26 kilos (four stone)...

Seven months into the low carb diet...

I had some history in it going back to reading Michael Yudkin years ago. I knew that in the past it had worked for me. But I was a bit put off by the warnings against the Atkins Diet which one hears from HCPs. I had tried other diets and got nowhere. So I gave low carb a try and the results...

Seven months into the low carb diet...

35 (as I think I wrote.) Is that too low?

    Share Your Progress!

Nine months into my Low Carb diet, I have just had another meeting with my GP. Weight down 26 kilos from a year ago and about four kilos down since our last meeting three months back. The weight loss gets slower but it continues. After three or four months off insulin and metformin, my blood...

    Low Carb Low Fat?

I want to write a separate posting on this at more length. But yes, you do have to watch calory totals and all the reliable scientists from John Yudkin onwards say so. Yudkin was the first advocate of low carb diets and we owe him and his successors a big debt, but I haven't found any clearly...

Seven months into the low carb diet...

I got the HbAiC figure from my GP today. It was 36 "almost too low" he said. By the way my blood pressure, high over many years, is currently 120 over 65 at the moment. Which is very cheering.

    WONDERFUL NEWS

Brilliant congratulations...but how long did it take to shed six stone? You must be very pleased.

Seven months into the low carb diet...

I was horribly bloated before I started. Not sylph-like yet, but as I said above, give me time!

Seven months into the low carb diet...

I got a print out from him of every reading except that one. (I was more worried about the kidneys.) I hesitate to pester as frankly it is not easy to get through---I had to ask two or three times. I accept that he has more urgent things to do than get details for me. (And he was always...

Seven months into the low carb diet...

The seven months anniversary has come up and I am now 23.8 kilos (54 lbs) lighter than I was. Trousers will have to be taken in again. Best of all, my hospital consultant has now advised me to discontinue Metformin completely. I had written to tell him I had cut out insulin. My HbA1c is, he...

    Advice please

I do already belong to just such an on-line service from our surgery. I order repeat medicine and make some appointments that way, though it seems only possible to book two weeks or so ahead. For blood tests, the system is dead. However I will ask them.

    Advice please

Thanks. I was given the impression that it was up to me.

    Advice please

He did refer me for the November test. I think you describe the mismatch situation exactly. But why is it left to the patient to chase these things up? I tried talking to the hospital and got nowhere.

    Advice please

Can you tell me how I go about requesting this?

    Advice please

There is certainly a form of non-communication. Several reasons for getting it done in the hospital. It is a walk-in arrangement and much easier. Second I have deep veins and frankly the staff in the surgery just can't manage it. I have had some horrible experiences. Third, most of my blood test...

    Advice please

I hope this doesn't sound feeble but I need some advice about what I should do. In November I had a blood test in my local hospital for the half yearly meeting with the HCP. I duly went to and attended the appointment with her. She was bowled over to discover I had lost around 20 kg thanks to...
