    Type 2 Protein powders.

Hi Jay When I was on the Newcastle Diet I lost a bit too much lean muscle tissue. I have been using the Atkins Advantage Chocolate Shake Mix. One serve is 136 cals for 18 grams of protein. It has a total of 3g carbs, of which 1 g is sugar. I have not experienced any spikes and was approved by my...

    High dose of Metformin

My maximum dose of Metformin was 2500mg and then I was moved onto Januvia as well. A lot of expert sites seems to indicate that there is little or no effect after 2000-2500mg. You could check the manufacturers site as well.

Why Cutting Carbs From Your Diet Is A Bad Move

Yup, you are quite right. I forgot to put in 'only'. Should have been "not only low carb, but low GI" as I am a fan of both Carisma and low GI stuff - I put it down to old age!!!!

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Hi Mine was 5.4 this morning. I have finally cracked the Morning Phenomena. Either a protein snack last thing at night or 125mls of red ( the red works better - I guess it distracts the liver for an hour or two before its starts to gear up for the day). This means I don't have to wait till...

Why Cutting Carbs From Your Diet Is A Bad Move

Not low carb, but low GI. Its gives you the option of real potatoe mash as a change from the cauli mash. They are called Carisma potatoes and they have a great deal of charisma for this Type 2. So start agitating for them in the UK - I'm sure we would be happy to supply them.

Why Cutting Carbs From Your Diet Is A Bad Move

Hi Kev If you want to read a balanced article from experts (I don't mean the product pushing self promoting loony fringe) check out the July 2016 newsletter on www.gisymbol.com. A refreshing change and no nonsense account of what happened in diet and nutrition over the last 20 years. The message...

Type 1: Have anyone try detoxing

The liver and kidneys were designed to do just that. If they are no longer doing it you would be in big trouble and in hospital. Please do not take the loony fringe dwellers seriously - there is not a shred of scientific evidence to support detoxing. It is only used to sell products or books.

Thanks to the Low Carb Program

Wonderful achievement and all the best for further progress .Like you, I have been around the same level of carbs, but have to watch my fat intake. A modest carb, mediterranean style restricted saturated fat diet did the trick for me - once I reached my desired weight . Excellent results and...

    New and devasated

Hi Heretic I think you have broken through a huge barrier - just by 'coming out'. Seems like you acknowledge that your diabetes may have been self inflicted - terrific if you can be that honest with yourself. Important thing is, now that you have beaten up yourself good and proper, don't keep...

    Transcendental Meditation

I forgot to mention the one and only Jon Kabat-Zinn at www.mindfulnesslivingprograms.com. Otherwise research on Type 1 and insulin is pretty thin on the ground. Some interesting snippets on www.insulinnation.com and www.medicalxpress.com

    Transcendental Meditation

I am a T2 so I am not familiar with insulin. The one thing I can state from personal experience( 40 years plus) is that stress is definitely reduced by meditation of various forms. Mindfulness meditation is possibly the best for western people as it is basic, practical and can be done with...

    Glycemic index and Load

Funny thing happened to me in Fort Lauderdale. Forgot my isoptin and we were there for 25 days. Went to doctor to get a script, $120 (about $50 here). Off to chemist (drug store) and asked for a packet. How many do you want ??? One packet. We don't have it, we have 18 tablets, how many do you...

    Transcendental Meditation

Hi I don't practice TM (it was popular when I was young in the 60s) but have used mindfulness meditation for decades. It has certainly helped me with stress reduction and managing my binge eating. Mindfulness meditation is old as the hills, and its basically buddhist practice repackaged for...

    Glycemic index and Load

Same here in Oz, we gets subsidised strips quite cheaply as well as medications. After about $1300p.a. the cost per strip drops to around $6 for 100 and similarly for med. We are also restricted to 4 AC1 tests but we can get 4 Fructosamine test. ( really good if you are altering medications/diet...

    Vegetable juice

Duh!!!! Delete, Delete, Delete. No bobrobert, I am the one missing something. I was putting stuff in about fruit juices, realised what I was doing, changed the typing then stuffed up royally. It should have said the GI of vegetables is generally low as is the GL. A standard 250ml (1 cup)...

    Glycemic index and Load

Hi Kev Whatever rows your boat or rings your bell - as long as it works for you. You certainly seemed to have found your way judging by your result (top stuff). I guess I am a bit luckier as I can handle a bit more carbs. So the lower carb/med style is my mantra. All the best. Fene48

    App

I have been using the Accu- Chek Performa Nano. You can also get an excellent software package with it that allows you to monitor your glucose levels. It uploads to the PC with a small usb device. Excellent graphics and record keeping for carbs as well. It is called Accu Chek 360 Diabetes...
