Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

5.5 today Been higher than usual recently; still trying to work out why through testing...

Peripheral neuropathy despite good blood results

Hi guys, The last week or so I've been getting a persistent tingling in my hands and occasionally my feet. Obviously as a diabetic I am super paranoid about what this might mean! I was only diagnosed a month ago, but I've made some serious changes to diet/lifestyle and my blood readings are now...

Type 2s: What have you eaten today?

Breakfast: cup of coffee with a dash of milk Lunch: ham salad on one of those sandwich thins (which for some reason don't spike my BS anywhere like other breads do) Dinner: have been marinating a chicken breast in a Mexican sauce which is beautifully only 1g carbs. Will have with shredded...

    total confusion re new units

With you on the homeopath front, but I had an HbA1c of 67 and my GP was happy to have me try diet and exercise. You can be having treatment without taking pills.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

5.6 today, which is to be expected since I fell off the wagon a little yesterday. Still v pleased with it, but the rest of the week I have been waking up to high 4s. A good lesson to be learned here: "chips are momentary, diabetes is forever" ;)

    Type 2 LCHF

Right now my testing schedule looks like this: #1: When I wake up in the morning #2: After breakfast #3: Before lunch #4: 1 hour after lunch #5: 2 hours after lunch #6: Before dinner #7: 1 hour after dinner #8: 2 hours after dinner Now not everyone tests as frequently (and I'm sure some do it...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

I was told not to get a meter and not to test, but quite gently - and more from the 'your diabetes is not so bad right now and I don't want you to obsess about testing' perspective rather than 'it's never helpful'. That being said without testing I would not have been able to identify some...

Type 2 morning bloods goal ??

I'm happy with anything less than 6 right now; it's a nice indication that I did well the previous day I'm generally more concerned with post-meal spikes at the moment though, as I'm still learning what my diabetes can live with and what makes it throw a tantrum...

I know I need low carbs but what about fat?

I'm in a similar situation to you - it's highly confusing when you're been eating one way your whole life! Basically if you're chopping out carbs from your diet almost entirely, you need to replace them with protein and fats. Luckily, if you're overweight you likely already have a lot of fat on...

    A1C drop - normal level

I remember reading a follow-up study he did with 30 people and the success rate was broadly similar. It could be that there are many types of Type 2 and ND only works for some of them. Last I heard we should be hearing from the new study in 2018 so that'll be interesting!

Newly diagnosed at 30 - hello everyone!

Oh yeah, tons. My lifestyle has been horrendous for the past five years - I think the chance of LADA is v low to be honest. I have considered asking my GP about a c-peptide test if only because I'm curious to see how much of my beta cell function is remaining.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

5.3 today. Absolutely thrilled, given I'm still in the "eat something and see what happens" phase. My post-prandial spikes are still high but for fasting BG level I'm pretty pleased with it

    First time testing

Hi guys Just done my first home blood test. My A1C was 67 (about 8.2) so I was pleasantly surprised to get a result of 5.7 on waking. Then an hour after breakfast (30g cereal plus skimmed milk) it was 11.4 I expected a jump (because carbs) but this seems really high? Or is it about what I...

Prof Roy Taylor's work on reversing type 2 diabetes

I've seen some people referencing December as a time when some more results might be released from Prof Taylor's latest study - where's that coming from? From the DiRECT website I wasn't expecting to see anything until the latter half of 2018?

    Jamesy Boy's Newcastle Diet

Thanks - I guess it's horses for courses. For me, if I attempt ND I would want to mirror the original methodology as closely as possible; from what I've read it seems like even Prof Taylor isn't 100% sure on why it works. However given I need to lose about 7 stone to be healthy BMI I'm sure...

    8 Weeks or 15% ?

I find the idea of a Personal Fat Threshold v interesting. My weight has bounced around the 16-18 stone mark for years, clearly unhealthy but not diabetic. I had a full medical in 2011 which showed fatty liver but no diabetes (after which I lost a bunch of weight). Now my weight has crept up and...

Time for new NHS diet guidelines?

Yes of course, sorry - I meant more in the way of pre-made foods and alternatives. As someone just recently diagnosed it's such an enormous dietary adjustment. I'd guess like a lot of people who get Type 2 I'm not a great cook and have always been time-poor. I would love to be able to buy...

Time for new NHS diet guidelines?

Although it's easy to blame Big Pharma I also think it's a lot to do with the consequences of decisions. LCHF is a relatively new trend and there haven't been a ton of studies done on it (though more all the time). The NHS has to be responsible before making recommendations - my impression is...

Losing weight the old fashioned way

Thanks @Brunneria ! Out of interest, what would you consider 'too high', or does it vary from person to person? I'm still getting my head around the mechanics of everything but as far as I know when we eat carbs vs a normal person our blood sugar will spike but theirs won't. What kind of level...

Newly diagnosed at 30 - hello everyone!

Hi everyone, I'm newly diagnosed with Type 2 last week and still on the emotional rollercoaster / grief train. All the introductory links and nuggets of advice have been so helpful with that so thank you :) Curious if there are any other young Type 2s out there? I'm 30 but have likely had this...
