Recently Diagnosed & New to this Forum

At the risk of sounding like a stuck record, yes, you can reduce your levels significantly by low carbing ;) Oh, and welcome! I had a similar HBA1C, at 89. I tried exercise and normal-ish "healthy" diet at first (brown rice, brown bread etc), but that only slightly lowered it 3 months later...

    Bump Size!

I'm writing this as someone who had gestational diabetes, so our situations aren't exactly the same, so this is just an example to show diabetics don't necessarily have big babies. I wasn't on insulin or any meds, so I have no idea about insulin. My first child, it wasn't diagnosed till the...

    Type 2 is back

That, I think, is the outcome we all should strive to achieve (the life back, not necessarily the winter travelling...although, I'd quite like that too!). Congrats on finding something that works for you. We all choose our own different paths, which sometimes spark interesting disagreements on...

    Type 2 Am I naive ?

My diabetic nurse never told me my numbers either. In fact, she hardly told me anything except if I was high (high in the prediabetic range) to exercise more and eat more healthily. What that meant, she also didn’t tell me... She’s retired now. My GP quotes numbers at me all the time...!

What was your bg reading last night and this morning?

I am because I am deaf and probably have something called MIDD, where metformin is contraindicated for it :) If I delved deeper, I should be genetically tested for it to be sure, but my GP isn't pushing that as an idea, and as we're both quite happy with levels remaining in prediabetic levels...

What was your bg reading last night and this morning?

Hi, @LalaALH As you're new here, I'm tagging @daisy1 for her welcome email which has lots of useful advice, even though that is sort of hijacking the thread. I know that my fasting glucose does seem to be directly related to what I've eaten the night before, even if I feel I've gone to bed...

    Diabetic Nurses - Discuss

This is a bit of an odd thread to post a welcome message on, but seeing as it is your first message, I'm tagging @daisy1 for her welcome info email. My answer: 1) Happily my DN was the opposite - nice to the point of being useless, as she never went anywhere near close to giving me targeted...

    Type 2 new diagnosis

Just coming along here to give you some reassurance. I'm a fellow not-overweight T2, 5ft, 41, and now 7st 9 lbs. And wish to stop entirely at a size 8 because I feel silly being able to buy in the same shops as my tween daughter :) Wasn't "overweight" before, but was in the size 8/10 range and...

    PreDiabetic and fading away

I'm not actually sure how the cholesterol things work, so I will defer to anyone (and that generally is most people!) more experienced than me. But as a fellow 'don't need/want to lose weight' person (5ft, 7st 10 lbs now) who inadvertently lost weight while trying to lower glucose levels...

    Had diabetes education today

I have the 85% chocolate, and the good news is that I can't eat more than a couple of squares of it because...well... it doesn't exactly taste like the chocolates of my past. But, a lot of it is about how to incorporate it when I would like a treat (without it being as bad for me as a regular...

    Congratulations - that's wonderful!

Got my second results back...diagnosed Type 2

I agree too on the mushrooms :) I enjoy the eating breakfast at hotels because they generally have cooked stuff that I can eat and don't have to prepare myself. I have no inclination in the mornings to do anything other than steer myself towards the coffee maker, which is my downfall as I...

    Had diabetes education today

I have lots of cheese every day, so I’m hoping the cheese advice is wrong ;) Just wanted to say that I had a similar HBA1c of 89 and went with an exercise and eating “healthily” plan and ... 3 months later it was 76. The most bizarre thing of all? My diabetic nurse was thrilled I was...

Increase in fasting blood glucose after exercise

I see you're new, so tagging @daisy1 to provide the new members information which is very informative. I'm not sure if I get a big rise immediately after exercise as I haven't ever tested before/after exercise. I only know that on exercise days my BG levels are a lot lower by the time I decide...

30 weeks and waters have broken

Hoping all goes very well for you - you're in good hands and the right place to be. I had gestational diabetes and my waters broke at 31 and a half weeks. Was hospitalised with the intent to keep my daughter in as long as possible, but she had other ideas and I went into labour a day later. I...

    Losing too much weight

Have the cream :) Make sure it's double cream. I'm a big fan of double cream on top of strawberries (just a few). Whip the cream if you're feeing decadent and then grate (I finally have a use for that small side of the grater!) dark (it's got to be dark - far less carbs) chocolate on top of it...

    Contridictions

As said above, on the skipping breakfast thing - you may find you have a need to eat something in the morning to stop your sugar levels rising. My levels keep going up and up unless I have breakfast. But, if I eat a practically no-carb breakfast (eggs, bacon, spinach etc) that stops it all and...

    Losing too much weight

I agree with the advice said on above posts, and am also an example of a T2 person who doesn't want to lose any more weight. I finally discovered that it's bizarrely about making sure I do eat enough, just the right kinds of food. Sadly, for me that means no biscuits, no cereal, no pasta (I...

New diagnosee, type 2, 39 years old

I'm with you with the problems about feeding kids and somehow trying to feed me too, as I have 9 and 12 year olds, one of whom is a pasta-holic. Sometimes two meals occur. Sometimes I forget myself and eat only what I can off their meal (ie the meat!). Sometimes I have the best of intentions...
