I have a pump after 50yrs of MDI

Thanks for all your reply's going good so far I feel more in control now. But trying not to change too much at moment. Nurse said I am very inventive. One thing i did with my bolus wizard blood test meter is to cut the too tight elasticated loop off the case and attach the meter with sticky...

I have a pump after 50yrs of MDI

I am very pleased to announce I now have an Animas pump. After 1 day on it I am so happy. I know it is early day's but the first meal I had it was so simple to bolus. Some of the thoughts I have had like how to carry it or sleep with it is now easy. I cannot feel the canular(steel one). Was...

    Silly question

I did dafne nearly 4 yrs ago. I spoke to the Nurse privately after it and showed her my injection sites which were quite bad. I said maybe a pump would be good. She then told me very likely i can have one. But foolishly I turned it down. 3yrs later I wanted one so my GP referred me for one...

    Pump Users: Need feedback.

i was issued with a pump yesterday. All i can say is WOW. brilliant. Less than an hour after having it I went into the hospital cafe, had beans on toast. I put the carbs into the pump as well as my blood sugar reading and pressed go. In 2 secs it was in. Sorry but there was a lot of tears...

'Freestyle Libre' blood glucose testing machine

I have used it but found it to be not having the same reading as my accucheck expert blood meter. 2 to 2.5 difference was the norm for me. I found they will not replace a sensor unless you have a few readings over 3 difference. I also had a lot of redness when sensor was removed. Though the...

    Latest guidelines

probably the only way to achieve this is to eat little or no carbs. Wonder how long it will be before it is then found this also has a harmfull effect. My Hba has been around 48 and my gp and DSN said this was too low. I am now at 54 and fewer hypo's. Hypo's are bad also as can effect long term...

    Injections. Or pump?

I can understand concerns with mechnical problems. But let's face it do we worry about our cars that we drive and look how complicated those are. Cars can also kill and most of us do not have a new one every 3 years. With the back up that pump companies provide. Though I am getting older, I am...

Type 1: Baked beans and toast, late rise?

I think it was something to do with the rate it works at...not sure. But I had'nt realised it until it was said, but I always went low after beans on toast. Now it is one of the best foods I eat that matches my bolus. It works for me anyway.

Type 1: Baked beans and toast, late rise?

This also used to often happen to me. But I went on a DAFNE update last month for one day and during this the subject of baked beans was disscussed. Apparantly with baked beans you have to halve the carb value as written on can. I had forgotten this on the full DAFNE course. So if can says 28gms...

    Injections. Or pump?

Guess I will find out soon as after 50yrs I am going on a pump. I am a little scared but I am determined to go for it. One thing I will say is that when on MDI, I have made mistakes with my dose (very occasionally). I once did the basal dose on my bolus insulin. With a pump it should be possible...

    Insulin wasn't working last night?

I agree with above comments, another thing to help slightly to bring down numbers is have a couple glasses of water. This then goes into your urine and flushes a bit of glucose out with it. Try exercising slightly to burn some off. Even walking up and down stairs is ok. Anything that will help...

Type 1: Sore finger tips - not taking insulin

I have a type 2 brother in Australia with his wife now a type1. I went to see them 22 years ago for 6 weeks. (I have been typ 1 for 50yrs). I noticed she was drinking a lot of water, I asked her to see her doc for a sugar test. She said no. I had a blood tester on me and could she just put a...

    Type 1 and Frozen Shoulders

I have both badly frozen shoulders. They came on about 25 years ago. I had the usual physio. A few years later I paid for private physio and accupuncture by Chinese lady. She improved me but could do no more. She said they were so bad there was no gap in the shoulder to swivel on. Also now...
