Great news, pleased for you! What's first on the menu, in your position I would like a nice chip shop chip sandwich, mmm ....

    Living abroad. Pre diabetic.

Have you got a meter swissy? I was in your position 6 years ago and I found a meter invaluable for testing what foods sent my blood sugar too high. A lot of people use codefree as it has the cheapest strips, I think you should be able to order from Amazon. Honestly though the meter was...

    Low Carb

Livlife bread from waitrose is just 3.8 gms of carbs per slice. However when I first was diagnosed as pre diabetic I went cold turkey with anything that increased my blood sugar, I do think it is easier to do it like that and get rid of the cravings once and for all. Then once it was down i then...

i need to get back on track

My motivation is fear! I don't want to succumb to one of many diabetic complications, I take my mum to hospital appointments for her many problems caused by diabetes. If ever I am tempted I think of a tv programme about diabetes explaining that excess sugar in your blood is like shards of glass...

    Might be pre diabetic?

Hi chris, you should get an appointment to see your gp and tell him your symptoms I suspect he will give you a blood test and then you will know. If you are please come back and we can help. In the meantime please try and lose weight it will only help your health even if your blood tests are okay.

Prediabetic-is it a good idea to monitor my blood sugar levels?

Yes I was in your situation a few years ago. A meter is absolutely necessary to see what food you can eat without sending your blood sugar too high. Add a pre diabetic I aimed for a spike of no higher than 7.8 1 hour after eating. One hour is when your blood sugar usually peaks, except if you...

5.9 and I was very good last night:(

    High bg and porridge

To me any rise over 7.8 is unacceptable as this is when damage occurs to your blood vessels. Even if the blood sugar went down after 2 hours that would be be unacceptable. As I say that is my view as I prefer to avoid diabetic complications but everyone is different.

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

not a very good 5.8, my fault I ate a protein bar at about 9pm as was a bit hungry which consists of 10gms of carb, I find they are ok as a meal replacement but obviously a bit too carby for a snack, lesson learnt!!

    Supermarket Online Shopping Substitutions

It is unfortunate but to be fair, they really can't please everyone, what they should do and they normally do with me is to go through the substitutions when the food is delivered and I can accept them or not. I have had online deliveries from ocado, tescos and sainsburys and they have all done...

    Carbs and weight loss

Sorry to see I am quite slim, always had a normal bmi but now mine is 19 and I still can't eat oats, I can tolerate a teeny bit of bread occasionally, but that is 6 years down the line, for the first few years I found I could only eat very low carb to keep normal blood sugar levels. So for me...

Sorry to say the soya milk in Starbucks is sweetened, nowhere ever stocks the unsweetened in cafes.

    Consultant's surprising action/help?

I would go on metformin, I am only prediabetic and have normalized my blood sugar by being very strict with my diet, however if it went up i would happily go on metformin as I believes it improves your insulin resistance, and stops your body overproducing glucose. Discuss with your GP if you...

    Am I depressed? :(

Hi, sorry you are feeling so low at the moment. I am only prediabetic so have no idea what you are going for you, but I have two sons who I guess would be around your age and I would hate for them to be feeling like you are at the moment. Can you go to a sympathetic GP and tell him how you are...
