    Frustrated already

Carlo, you are only just in the threshold of diabetes that is good. To find out what you can eat you need to test before then 1, then 2 hours after your first mouthful. Permanent damage can occur when your blood sugar goes over 7.8mm so some aim never to go over that. I find carbs send my blood...

    Symptoms returning

As AndBreathe said, what are you readings? I was diagnosed as only just prediabetic as I went to the GP's and asked for a blood test. My symptons re: the tiredness and getting up to wee a lot at night were similar to yours, and I had a few others as well! Once I got my blood sugars down to...

Type 2 What over the counter foods can we eat ?

In terms of snacks, I might have a small bit of cheese, cold meat, nuts, half avocado, half a pepper, celery, spoonful sugar free peanut butter, glass of unsweetened soya milk.

    Low carbing and hair thinning

I low carb and have no issues with my hair. Do you eat berries? They are a lower carb fruit that some can tolerate and are supposed to be full of nutrients.

On LCHF from yesterday but still high

Have you been moving around, I find mine is lowest first thing then it goes up, it doesn't go up if I eat. It must be frustrating, keep testing, you might find if you get your after meal spikes down it gets your morning spikes down.

    Stress?

Gosh, that is a lot of strips! You are obviously concerned quite rightly, but what are you eating at night? Are you testing at other times of the day, ie before you eat and two hours after to see what happens to your blood sugar. I find I need to limit most types of carbs to keep my blood sugar...

    What to drink?

On the alcolhol front red wine or bacardi and diet coke:) I don't drink diet drinks at home because my gut feeling is they are not brilliant for you, however I do like a diet coke when I go out.

On LCHF from yesterday but still high

I still had carbs, for breakfast I used to have egg and mushrooms, or plain soya yoghurt and berries. For lunch I used to have a massive salad with some meat or fish, then some nuts, or home made soup with non carby veg. Then dinner fish and loads of veg, or roast with no potatoes just loads of...

On LCHF from yesterday but still high

My readings went down virtually straightaway, my aim was not to drift into diabetes and also to keep my levels always below 7.8 even after eating as I have read that if your blood sugar is above this level (over a long period of time) this is when damage occurs in your blood vessels which lead...

    Do I have diabetes?!

Please don't worry about your blood sugar, that all seems quite normal. Honestly I have children a little older than you and I would be totally unconcerned if they had blood sugar readings at that level. It is not even on the high side of normal.

On LCHF from yesterday but still high

I think at the beginning I wouldn't eat the brown rice, butter bean or sweetcorn, I didn't eat anything carby like that as it sent me higher than 7.8 and I am only pre diabetic.

HB1AC increased from 5.1% to 5.54% in one year

I thought 5.4 was normal and that your understanding was correct. However your reading has increased, in your shoes I would ensure I wasn't overweight, cut out sugary drinks including fruit juice. I would get a blood glucose Meter to monitor my blood glucose after eating.

Waist size, bmi and diabetes risk

What a good point zand that the diabetes causes the larger waist, never thought of that.

Waist size, bmi and diabetes risk

Just interested in other people's views and experiences on this subject. My waist size measured around my belly button is 32" which is over the maximum 31.5" as on the NHS website. However my BMI is 19 I am 5'8" and weigh 56.5 kgs. Interesting as I could only go down to 55.2 kgs to be in a...

    Out of control !

Jim,have a look at Livlife bread available at Waitrose it is only just under 4 gms carbs per slice, if it is the bread that is pushing you high it might be worth a try.
