    Alcohol with type 2

Red wine is my tipple of choice, I find it lowers my blood glucose. I think you need to test and see how different drinks affect you.

    Menopause

I don't know, but all I can say is that I was told I was pre diabetic before my menopause and now I have had my menopause my figures have continued to improve. The menopause certainly hasn't worsened my blood sugar in any way. But that is just me we are all different.

    Is this prediabetes?

You need to phone the surgery and get a printout of your results, they will be happy to give you them. This is what I do and it is not a problem however they never just give them to me. I decided to low carb when I was diagnosed as pre diabetic. I bought myself a monitor and saw what sent my...

    What choc?

I used to buy prestat dark chocolate which actually said it was higher in the good things than others of the same darkness! They don't do it now, I go for lindt 90% as being the lowest carb, they also do a lindt 100% which was even lower in carbs but it was twice the price and to be honest I...

Help - i have a cyst in my liver

I can understand you being worried, sending you healthy vibes:) But I really want to reassure you that if there was any doubt I am sure the GP wouldn't have said that. From my experience (which turned out ok thank goodness) they never reassure you that it is not cancer if there is any...

    Low Carbers Anonymous...

What was worrying to me was that my trigs went from extremely low, on the perceived 'healthy diet', with lots of wholemeal bread, low fat etc., to quite a bit higher, which was confusing as I have read about the links between carbs and trigs.

    Low Carbers Anonymous...

A bit of butter on my veg lovely! However I'm with Brunneria cream is my thing, I could eat it from the pot in large quantities! Sadly when I first started low carbing and increased my fat my ldl and trigs increased quite dramatically, so sadly I keep my fats mostly of the traditional healthy...

    There's nothing worse .....

Gosh well done, those are great numbers, you are well and truly entitiled to be smug! Plus it is very inspiring for others to read what you can do with exercise and diet. When I first joined with prediabetes it was the success stories that cheered me up and made me realize that I could do...

    Holiday carbs?

I am still quite strict when I go on holiday, but to be honest it is quite easy in the med to eat out. I just ask for extra salad instead of chips and normally restaurants are happy to oblige. Lots of lovely grilled fish and meat, greek salads etc., take some almonds and pumpkin seeds for...

    Type 2 Self Inflicted/Family connection.

Well my gp said my pre diabetic state was caused by genetics. I asked to be tested due to diabetic symptoms, he was very surprised when the test came back as I was not overweight. Plus having one of more diabetic parent is listed as a risk factor in the official diabetic info. So sadly I...

Do I have diabetes or not?

I read on here that the fasting blood sugar is the last thing to rise, not sure how accurate that is. I never will know what my HBA1c would have been if I had carried on eating the so called NHS healthy diet. I think mine must have been quite high because certain symptons, itchy legs, blurred...

    Beconase

Thank you Izzies, Gillyhill and Croc, for your feedback, I really appreciate your reassurance. However I have been steaming all afternoon with Olbas Oil and I think it is a teeny bit better! I am going to persist with this for a couple of days intensively! Mine isn't in my nose at all I can...

Do I have diabetes or not?

I was diagnosed with pre diabetes from a high blood sugar reading from a fasting test, which I asked for due to symptons. I found this website, bought a meter and low carbed and brought my readings down. When the doctor retested me a few months later my results were normal. To be honest I...

    Beconase

Thank you will try this today, it is driving me up the wall! The pharmacist mentioned sudafed or similar, have you tried this or do you find the steam works? Never had this before other than with a cold and my sympathies are with you if you suffer from this a lot.

    Beconase

I have been recommended by my GP to use Beconase nasal spray for my blocked eustachian tubes, I am a bit nervous because it is a steroid. I am pre diabetic but don't want to use anything that potentially increases my blood sugar. Any feedback on this medication welcome, my GP says it should be...

    hard beginning of the year

Gosh you've been through a lot. Firstly those readings look great to me, so rest assured you are not doing harm to your body. Could you pay to go to a endocrinologist who speaks your native tongue and start afresh, a third party specialising in diabetes to give you a definitive diagnosis?

    Undiagnosed but high blood sugar

Ballofwall, just read this thread really pleased you are feeling better. A little tip to help your weight, macadamia nuts! They are I think, 600 calories in the small bag and they are healthy fats! The weight fell off me when I first low carbed and I think these helped stabilise it.

    Diabetes itchy skin

I only had pre diabetes and used to get itchy legs and feet. I used to itch my legs until they bled, the resulting discomfort was better than the itching. The itching went one I got normal bg levels. I did so by strict dietary controls.

    Prediabetes to Diabetes

I have no doubt that without my very strict dietary control I would have gone on to full blown diabetes. When I looked at my blood tests over the years each test showed a gradual increase in my fasting blood glucose. If plotted on a graph would show a gradual but steady increase with age. My...
