    Testing tolerance for different foods

You are even fancier than me @JenniferM55 I just check whatever tin of chopped tomato has no added sugar and pour it over mince, meatballs etc. Straight from the tin. No one has complained yet and believe me they know how. I count 3 carbs for my quarter of the tin.

    A wee update.

I've been home about a month since my second total knee replacement and I am now officially bionic. I'm starting to wean off the strongest of the painkillers and am slightly less concerned that what I type will be incoherent. I've managed to stay very low carb throughout and the hospital staff...

Can we have the Statins conversation again?

Thanks all. I'm currently recuperating from a big surgery so napping my days away in a painkiller haze and slow to respond and not posting much but I really appreciate the support. Nurse says her score puts me at 40 something percent risk and she really would like me to start statins. We talked...

Can we have the Statins conversation again?

My lovely diabetic nurse(she is pro low carb and really supportive) is calling at 9.30 tomorrow to confirm my diabetic treatment plan and go through ?markers? for whether or not I need statins. She seems keen for me to be on them but knows I'm reluctant. The thing is I have woken up this morning...

How very kind of you to say @aylalake . You made my morning. I'm with you on the word normal. We have family members with additional support needs and have found the word "ordinary" is an acceptable alternative.

Thank you muchly. That sounds doable. The sweetener I have is "Trivia for baking...icing" Will that work or should I buy something else? Because I'm still a trainee kitchen wise can you give me an idea of proportions please.

I think I'm sorted I have two grown boys at home (by the skin of their teeth, one just got a job and the other is nearly finished uni ) Between them and my husband I live with three big men so Christmas meals (like all our meals) are more fuel than finesse. My Christmas fayre might not be as...

    Breakfast ideas

Hi @akindrat18 I really hope you find this post helpful and not bold or cheeky. Do you know about the patient advocate service? ://www.nhs.uk/conditions/social-care-and-support-guide/help-from-social-services-and-charities/someone-to-speak-up-for-you-advocate They can be a big help with...

3 month hba1c results. So far so good

The carbs are no problem. I've just had a big bowl of flaxseed porridge and yesterday I had a (low carb) roll and bacon for my breakfast. I smile every time I add butter or cream to something and truly feel like I'm on a permanent cheat day from all the diets I've previously known. The nicotine...

3 month hba1c results. So far so good

The diabetic nurse drew my blood at 9.30am today and called me at work at 3pm excited to tell me the results. My heart dropped when I saw "doctor" flash up on my phone. My hba1c on August 8th was 54 and today it is 44 and that is good news. The nurse is more excited than I am because I'm still...

    Leftovers Medley

I love the idea of this but at three months in I am still paranoid about getting an accurate carb count and think I would get confused with all the bits and pieces. I do use up leftovers but its mostly meat and easy to count

    Leftovers Medley

I just want to write ditto under all the previous posts (except for the whole boiled onions, that's a new one on me) On Fridays we used to all have big takeouts. Now they all have takeout and I picnic on leftovers in the fridge. Maybe in a omelette or stir fry or maybe just refried with a big...
