Good pump clinic in East Midlands/ London/ Taunton??

Hate to say it but I feel most medical staff make me feel like s..t after I go there. They will pick at every small thing and always look for continual improvements even if there is not that much wrong. To me going to most diabetic staff feels like trying to meet unobtainable targets while...

    Endocrinology?

Insulin is a hormone as well. When I lived in NZ my regular appointments were with endocrinologists although as it is not the same in the UK I suspect yours is for something different.

    Injection Areas

You certainly need to vary your sites as if you continually inject in the same areas you will get lumps which impedes the absorption of insulin. Once these lumps develop they can take a year or more to disappear and can be painful as well as ugly if they are bad. Long term diabetics move sites...

    Never Getting It Right

I am continually being told my HBA1c's are always too low and this must mean that I am having hypo's. I was having severe night time hypos in the summer as well as continually having lows in the day as well .I did DAFNE and things improved immeasurably and I no longer have the night time hypos...

    Never Getting It Right

I have just had my check up with the nurse and my HBA1c has dropped again to 6.1% (43) when I had been seeing a gradual increase over the last 6 months. I had been feeling better since doing DAFNE in the summer and not having frequent hypo's. I really wanted to reapply for my licence again as we...

    Fed up!

Easy!!!! No it's never ever easy for any of us and unfortunately it doesn't get easier the more you do it. But you have 2 choices..Laugh or cry. Sometimes crying is a good thing but it can't win the whole time. So there's only 1 thing left and that's laugh about it. Can't f.....g change it so...

DAFNE course... whos took part in this and did you find it helpful?

Yes I did it last summer and previously my life was being ruined by severe night hypos. Since attending the course I have got them under control and spent time in a great environment with people who actually understood what I was going through. Just do it and enjoy it. You have nothing to lose.

    31 Years Today

Thanks everyone. I still have all my bits and pieces hanging on and long may it continue. You know what as well? Sometimes we don't give ourselves enough credit for the hard road that we have to travel. I, like many others I'm sure, am very hard on myself when things go wrong but as Anna29 says...

    Scary night time hypo

Hi Don’t know if I can really be of reassurance or not but I have suffered horribly from these in the past and still do have them. I’ve been Type 1 for 31 years and during bad times in my life I was suffering these sometimes twice a week. I would become conscious with either my wife or...

    Hypos/fits

I am not sure these are "fits" in the normal sense of the word such as epileptics have. I have had many of these, normally during the night with severe hypos. I have smashed my face up a few times by falling out of bed and banging furniture. I believe that adrenaline has a part to play in this...

Advice needed re: adjusting insulin to account for exercise.

One thing that is important to remember is that after heavy exercise your blood sugars can be affected for hours afterwards. I cycle quite long distances (32 miles round trip commutes and 50 mile pleasure rides) and you can see drops in your levels a long time afterwards. This is particularly...

    Shivering

In the last few years I had severe problems with night time hypo's which frequently left me requiring assistance and medical care. After these I would always become as cold as ice and starting shivering for up to an hour afterwards as well as feeling physically exhausted. Luckily since I...

    Rock Climbing

I am sometimes a little bit dubious about telling people I am Type 1 when doing activities such as this. A few years ago I went to Australia scuba diving and went on a liveaboard. Despite having dived regularly for years with authenticated log book etc and a doctors certificate saying I was...

    Diabetic nonsense

Oh there have been many, normally the main ones revolve around 1) "Oh you shouldn't be eating that should you" 2) "I didn't get you one because you're not allowed to eat any sugar" 3) " I've made you something different from everyone else" (normally carb free although I'm a T1 and obviously...

    BMI Confusion

Thanks everyone. I have lost about 6kg relatively quickly over the summer as I was not working and was going out 3 or 4 times a week and cycling 40 miles or so. But I am happy with the way I look. I am quite skinny in my body now but do have big thighs obviously. I certainly am happy with the...

    BMI Confusion

Hi, Over the last 2 years I have managed to lose about 13kg in weight mainly due to cycling. I used to be 80kg and I am now about 67kg. I am 5'9 and have a quite small build. I am personally quite happy with the weight loss but a some of my family and friends have been commenting on my...

    Lantus playing tricks on me

Hi, One thing you have to bear in mind with Lantus is that changes you make to the dose can take several days to start taking proper effect. If you are changing this on a day to day basis you may not be experiencing the full change until a few days later and as a result all the changes are...

    Any advice appreciated

Hi Just wondering if you use the Greenlane Clinic? I have been in Auckland for 4 years and they have done very little for my Type 1 apart from make my life difficult. I find them obstructive and arrogant and unable to listen to my point of view or move from their own standpoint. Also their...
