Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

The thing now is they are all terrified of people having too low sugars because apparently research in the last few years has shown that hypo's greatly increase the risk of heart disease and having heart attacks (don't ask me how or to produce medical links as I am just quoting what more than...

    Type 1 vs Type 2

So many good points there RRB. You always seem to be a voice of reason in a somewhat chaotic environment on here. I'm not going to comment what it's like being T2 as I'm not and never will be. I have enough of my own issues just getting through the day (and night) that most non diabetics have...

Type 1 and the seasonal effect

Maybe you got bitten by an infected greenfly?

Type 1 and the seasonal effect

Sorry posted that too early. What I meant to also say was that I have always put my feelings of fatigue etc in November 1982 as the onset of the diabetes starting but of course this could have been an infection or a mild flu etc which overlapped with the high blood sugar symptoms starting.

Type 1 and the seasonal effect

I was diagnosed in January 1983 so the middle of winter but I remember starting to feel unwell at the end of November 1982. I don't ever specifically remember getting unwell with anything else or being under stress with anything else but that doesn't mean it didn't happen as it was a long time ago.

    Building Your Own Equipment

Spotted this the other day and thought it looked interesting. Maybe a little bit out of the range of abilities for most people but interesting non the less. http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/oct/26/health-hackers-patients-taking-medical-innovation-into-own-hands

    Fed up today

Yes my heart goes to you. I seem to find that every few months or so all my rates seem to inexplicably "reset" themselves. I use a pump and just when I've got my levels all together they seem to drop off and my insulin requirements seem to need adjusting. Often there doesn't seem to be any...

    Lantus and diet only Type

Firstly well done for getting such a good grip on your diagnosis and control right from the start. That is half the battle won at this stage. However unfortunately I don't think there are many people out there that can not use at least a small amount of bolus insulin. Obviously reducing your...

    Long haul travel

With injecting Lantus you have to keep it at the same time as your departure time or obviously this could result in taking too much or too little. So what you have to do when you get in the air is remember what time it is in the UK and forget whatever time it is on your stopover or destination...

Andy, that's some really great advice there.

    GP Practice Diabetes Clinic

Trust me I had some appalling situations with GP's and clinics when I lived in NZ a few years ago. I found them incredibly directive, i.e. you will do this you will do that etc and would then threaten to remove my driving licence if I didn't comply. Some of it was not far away from bullying...

    Getting increasingly fed up!

Just a slight note of caution on this. You say that you were 15.1 and then had a small bowl of chocolate Wheetos because you wanted to keep your levels a bit high. 15.1 is really quite high anyway and add a bowl of chocolate cereal into this then you are likely to go soaring into the 20's...

Need some advice on possible hypo

Just my thoughts on this. I think you were having a hypo but as the other peeps have said often the symptoms do vary. Any weird feelings should have you testing your blood. I think your problem was that you had pizza for lunch. Often pizza will take a long time to affect your blood sugar as it...

What is an acceptable HbA1c ?

The only thing to bear in mind with this though is that very low HbA1c's for T1's can often result in serious hypo issues. Over the last few years mine have ranged from 35-45 but I often had serious night time hypo's when I was unconscious as well as a much reduced hypo awareness. Things have...

    Please help, I'm so desperate...

I think this is a combination of several issues here. 1. He obviously has bad blood glucose control and that may well be making him feel nauseous. Levels of over 33 will make him feel sick but smoking large amounts of skunk is only treating the symptoms of this not the cause. He needs to go to...

    Help a mum!

Jeez my sympathies go out to you. That is a very young age to be diagnosed. I know there are a couple of others on the forum that were diagnosed that young but it is unusual. As the others have said it's the ketones you need to worry about so it is imperative that they are not allowed to get...

Anyone feel like they are part Robot?

I have a friend who takes the pee out of me a bit..in a nice way. When he can't get phone signal he asks if I'm mucking around with my pump again and if I am still spying on his internet use and stuff. But when I am cycling to work I connect my pump to my bag strap via a velcro strap for safety...

    Genteel Pain Free Lancing Device!!!!!!

That would be interesting. I have noticed that when I squeeze my fingers now sometimes I get blood coming out from earlier jabs that haven't healed properly. It's quite freaky just squeezing your finger tips and blood coming out! it actually doesn't bother me but my fingertips are a bit of a...
