    Moving to New Zealand

Best check with the Health Authority there. I don't know but don't think they will give you too much grief to be honest

Cycling competitively but can't stop hypos

No I'm not, I tend to try and stay away from Strava as I generally like to be in my own little world when cycling. I'm not really competitive and do it for the enjoyment.

Cycling competitively but can't stop hypos

That sounds good, my Kiwi friend is my wife's cousin and er...no I won't be bringing him. Jet lagged with no bike or cycling experience and a birthday to celebrate. I think Leith Hill would actually kill him.

Cycling competitively but can't stop hypos

Great, looks like I should be able to make it. I'm assuming it's just a turn up and ride type thing?

Cycling competitively but can't stop hypos

I'm just checking out whether I have a relative from New Zealand coming that day and if not I will almost certainly be up for that as well. I am hoping to do the steel needles as I know this area quite well. Sounds great. Any ideas on numbers just yet?

What's the lowest you've gone without noticing?

I've had a 0.9 on an older meter as well as a few LO's. But then I used to be Captain Hypo back in the day. I have been known to spend large amounts of my life wandering around feeling not too bad in the 2's or below without too many problems. Not something I'm particularly proud of but these...

    Remember when ?

I have tried to find a picture of my first blood test meter but can't find one or even remember it's name. I got it in about 1984 and it was the size of a large hard back novel, black and had 2 buttons on the top with a flap that you lifted on the top to put your test strip in. Used to have to...

    First year diabetes anniversary today.....

I don't celebrate but I always think back to the day of diagnosis and it does make me a little sad to be honest. It was probably the biggest life event I have ever had. Hope you find some reasons to be cheerful today.

I don't have a choice, depending where you live you may or may not get to choose which pump you have. It is a bit of a postcode lottery I believe. I only tried it in my backside once (tries not to giggle) but found it was awkward for removing the plastic connector when dressing and going to...

    another back to mdi

Yes my feelings exactly, I have lost a lot of trust in actually getting the insulin into my body and with that level of mistrust then it is hard to feel comfortable using the pumps.

I'm using Animas Vibe .I started off with Inset II's and they were just awful, they barely worked for me and were hugely unpredictable. Of course at the time I thought it was me not using the pump properly but gradually started to realise it was the cannulas. I'm not saying they are awful for...

    another back to mdi

I am currently on a pump “holiday” although my situation is slightly different. I felt completely ready to go on to the pump and had attended all the relevant courses and having been diabetic for 32 years was aware of how the condition needs to be looked after. The reason for me going on the...

Had to Come Off Pump After 7 Weeks

Wow thanks for this advice I will give it a go. I am thinking about restarting on the pump next week however since going back to pens my readings have been great for the last 2 days!

Cycling competitively but can't stop hypos

I am very similar to you and although it doesn't help Andrew I find that I don't really adjust doses too much for those type of distances, I just eat carbs. However I am a special case and I will actually get increased levels when cycling in the morning and then drop like a stone if I cycle in...

Had to Come Off Pump After 7 Weeks

That's interesting as I do push quite hard when inserting but I was told to do this when I went for my first appointment. The rep and the DSN were right with me when I did the first one. Maybe I could try not pushing so hard but to be honest I can't see why this would make a difference? Surely...

Had to Come Off Pump After 7 Weeks

Thanks for this but I have tried numerous sites. I am sometimes getting OK readings but they are never consistent.

Had to Come Off Pump After 7 Weeks

Thanks for all this. The sore lumps you describe sound like the ones I have been getting, I'm sure they interfere with the delivery of insulin as well. I am quite small really, 5'9 and 70kg so I'm certainly on the thinner side. I hadn't even thought about checking for kinks when I removed them...
