    Diabetic Retinopathy and Maculopathy

I have had Type 2 diabetes for about 15 years. To start with, I took pills and generally followed the standard dietary advice. It got progressively worse, which I assumed inevitable. But since October 2024, I've been on a low carb regime to get it under control. My last A1c was 49 mmol/mol...

    Protein Bars

I like PhD Smart protein bars, which I buy from Sainsbury's. They are a go-to when I am on the move and low carb food is not available. None of the varieties I've eaten has raised my BG, although some have a bit more sugar than others.

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

4.7 Libre at 6 a.m., but I want to get in an hour more sleep if I can.

Anyone having big reliability issues with Freestyle Libre 2 Plus sensors?

I've noticed this too. And BTW I've only had one sensor fall off. I can't comment on accuracy because I've had problems using a glucometer for comparison, but the trends up and down have been very helpful. I suspect (hope) my next A1c will be pre diabetic at worst. I am having health issues due...

    Diabetes Eye Check

Hi @peterb999, I feel your distress. I've also been diagnosed with deteriorating eye condition long after I'd worked to improve my A1c. I have a Libre CGM - find it very helpful to see what raises my glucose unduly - not only food, but at times stress, poor sleep. So do take advantage of free...

Type 2s who use a CGM

Thanks. 42 would be terrific, considering I was 88 last October. And well done, you.

    Diabetes, Statins and Polymyalgia

I am on Atorvastatin. Lately, I've been experiencing myalgia. Over the past months, my A1c and lipids have been improving. My A1c likely going down from 49 last month, and my most recent non-HDL cholesterol at a normal level. Could this improvement be causing a myalgia side effect of the statin?

Type 2s who use a CGM

Two months later, 7 day average is 5.9. 90 day average is 6.3. Last month, my A1c was 49 and my 90 day average has been going slightly down since. So, touch wood, even if my Libre numbers are inaccurate, if the trends are correct, my A1c is now at the pre-diabetes or normal level. Estimated...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

4.2, but on Libre 2 plus so may be inaccurate.

    Chocolate

Sainsbury's has a sugar free dark chocolate bar, which I enjoy. But my favourite is Lindt 90% dark chocolate bar. Minimal sugar content, no artificial sweetener. 2 squares a guilt free treat. 85% also good. Btw, I wouldn’t refrigerate chocolate unless extremely hot weather demands. The...

    Dapagliflozin newbie

Interesting that my experience has been different. I was on Dapagliflozin 5 mg as well as metformin. I also recently had surgery under GA - twice - and was told to stop the dapa 2 days beforehand. I was also catheterised both times. My first op led to an 8 day hospital stay. My BG was tested...

    Dapagliflozin newbie

@Michael 1701, I also had severe burning wee while on Dapagliflozin, which I didn't associate with the drug for a long time, but eventually a suspicion was my reason for imploring my GP to discontinue it. So far, 12 days later, I still have burning wee, negative for UTI, maybe slight signs of...

    Dapagliflozin newbie

Dapagliflozin 5 mg was added to my prescription after many years on Metformin. After a year, I came off it. I personally didn't like it, finding it made me constipated, and that going on a low carb regime was more helpful. But everyone is different, so you must make a determination together with...

At last my GP agreed I can stop taking Dapagliflozin.

I was prescribed Dapagliflozin (on top of Metformin) a year ago, because my HbA1c had risen to 88 mmol/mol. It did not get reduced until I started a low carb regime 2 months later. I stopped taking it a week ago, with my GP's agreement. Here are my early observations: 1. It has had no...

Anyone having big reliability issues with Freestyle Libre 2 Plus sensors?

I'm finding the Libre 2 plus reliable. I did have a spate of 3 which failed just after activation and one which fell off at about Day 10, all of which were replaced without fuss. But otherwise they've been fine. I use a fairly old Android phone.

I've just been emailed a link to NHS "Know Diabetes" app to manage T2D.

I haven't looked at it thoroughly yet, but I see the app is regional (NW London) and with a 2025 copyright. @AnnHaugh has had a similar app for some time, so I suspect regions are coming to realise the importance of self-help. Having said which, it's far from comprehensive and has the usual...

I've just been emailed a link to NHS "Know Diabetes" app to manage T2D.

Lucky you. I guess GP surgeries are very uneven on help for T2 diabetes. But my practice is beginning to come to attention recently, maybe because I've had quite a few problems, although I sometimes feel like a nuisance.

I've just been emailed a link to NHS "Know Diabetes" app to manage T2D.

A very welcome development. An app called "Know Diabetes" with a dashboard including "My Results", "My Profile", "Managing your Condition", showing graphics of results and screenings, to help us manage T2D. It's incomplete, less detailed than it could be, but hugely helpful, especially as I...
