Arrested for drunk in charge when actually Hyperglycaemic

Re: Arrested for drunk in charge when actually Hyperglycaemi Excellent - I'm so glad to hear you've been vindicated, and I hope that the police have learnt some good lessons from this as well. It's very generous of you to give your compensation to a diabetes charity, and hopefully they can put...

    First blood glucose test

Oh definitely can have mushrooms. Re lancets, I don't know if you have the single use ones, or the pen where you load a needle/lancet into it and then fire it with a button. If they're the single use ones, not much you can do, but if its a pen, you can definitely reuse the needle (as long as you...

Hi, long time no post I guess!

I would hazard a guess that you are type 1 but in the honeymoon period. Your bodies reaction to going without insulin (urinary ketones) almost certainly rules out type 2. I think it is very common for type 1's to have a "honeymoon" period initially after diagnosis where their insulin...

I think I may have reversed my Type 2 diabetes !!!!!!

I get 50 per month, I really don't know if they're rationed, I've never dared ask for more than that, in case they change their minds and don't give me any. But to be fair, it's never seemed to be an issue. They gave me the meter upon diagnosis, and one time I put my prescription repeat request...

    First blood glucose test

Charon - I'm wondering why you have been eating so little? Is this because of the diabetes or because you generally have a very small appetite? What's the thing with only having two meals a day, one of which is two weetabix? Just personally, I think you are going about it the wrong way (sorry...

    God **** dawn phenomenon!!

If you have been diagnosed a long time then ignore me, but if you are relatively newly diagnosed (say 3 months or less) then I would say, just hang in there. My morning sugars were definitely the last to go down. And I agree - very frustrating. But all of a sudden, after about three months of...

    Blood Levels and Fatigue/Tiredness

I do understand (well, I don't but I can imagine) why you don't want to eat more/more frequently. I wonder if maybe your metabolism is just really screwed up? Have you been on lots of crash diets in the past? You remind me of my mum. She hardly eats anything, only tiny portions, but puts on...

Do you tell people you have diabetes?

@PokerTom, Were you prescribed beta-blockers, such as atenolol, after your heart attack? Atenolol in particular has been implicated in causing diabetes. That is not a reason to stop taking it, obviously, but it might be worth bearing in mind.

    Blood Levels and Fatigue/Tiredness

Stillo - I really feel for you being overweight on such a low calorie intake - it must make it much harder to know where to go. Yes, high blood sugar can certainly make you feel fatigued. It definitely did with me. I am also overweight, and before diagnosis, I had levels probably around 11 to...

    Daily Sugar Intake

IIRC, Akindrat is significantly overweight and is not likely to be doing a five mile jog. Akindrat, there are certainly things in your diet that aren't doing your diabetes any favors. Sugar-packed yoghurt is one, Ready Brek is another. Quite the worst breakfast "cereal", IMO, and if you really...

How long you are on them, rather!

Can't work out why I have prediabetes

Steroids can give you diabetes as well, although I think it is dependent on his long you are on them and what dose.

    Post Your Recipes Here!

Can I just add that if you *feel* the need for some butter icing on this ;) you can make really nice butter icing with softened butter and coconut flour. Just sayin'.

    A Carbohydrate Experiment

Hi Viv - my BMI started at 48 as well, but I haven't done as well as you (yet) - its hovering just above 40, and I can't wait for it to be in the thirties where, IIRC, we change from "morbidly obese" to just "obese" :) (Incidentally, I've gone from a size 28 to a size 22) Type 2 on Metformin...

Biscuits? I might not need them after all.

Thundercat - it might be worth persevering. I started with 70%, and kept with that until it tasted really sweet. Now 70% tastes like a Milky Bar to me. Then I went up to 85% and now I have 90%. But I think the key is that you have to give it time. Also I found I preferred ones that had some...

Claire - I'm loving all your recipes and have subscribed to the blog :) Please do post more! Type 2 on Metformin, diagnosed Jan 2013, ultra low carber, Hba1C at diagnosis 8% (11mmol), now between 5 and 6 mmol. 20kg lost so far :)

    Questions from a new diabetic.

Just on the crisps thing (I'm type 2 so I don't know much about insulin dosing etc) are you absolutely SURE they contained 90g of carbs? That seems extraordinarily high - how many did you eat? I haven't eaten crisps since I was diagnosed but I'm almost certain that they're something like 20g per...
