    Type 1 diabetic -- Low Carbing --- help :)

There is no comparison medically between being in ketosis and having the medical emergency of ketoacidosis. Ketoacidosis means you have no available insulin, your blood sugars go very high, your blood becomes acidic from the very high levels Of ketones and you become very ill (some symptoms...

    Flying with an insulin pump

I don't know if this would work so don't take it as gospel, but given the issue is the size of the bottle ie you are only allowed bottles of 100ml, would it not be possible to take a number of little bottles, with 100ml of lucozade decanted into each one? Or is there a limit as to how many...

    Officially Diagnosed Yesterday

Hi Jules! Thanks for your nice words! They came at a really good time cos I was feeling a bit low yesterday. I was never given metformin for my PCOS, I wish I had been. I had Clomid for a while, when we were trying for a second baby, but then nothing. My PCOS came on really suddenly when I...

Low Blood Sugar without problems - anyone?

I do understand completely what you're getting at. But I can understand what others are getting at too. Maybe there is something in it, about magnesium enabling us to tolerate low blood sugar without symptoms. But until that's known for sure, maybe a good compromise would be to slightly reduce...

    Officially Diagnosed Yesterday

Hi Jules! Welcome. I have PCOS too, and I got diagnosed after having a routine test to check my HbA1c because of it. So I'm quite grateful to my GP surgery cos I would not have thought to ask for a test. I'm a yo yo dieter too (but hopefully not any more :) ) Re the meter, to be honest I'd just...

    Are these Symptoms of Diabetes

Probably not by eating fruit and crab sticks ;). Pretty high in carbs, both of them. Don't panic :) re the diabetes. It doesn't sound like your doctor was particularly informative over the phone, but you've got plenty of time to find out what are the right and wrong things to eat. Have you got...

    How silly do I feel...?

I had no idea that the plunger thing on the opposite end of the lancing device was to reset the needle. I've been religiously unscrewing the cap, pushing the needle back in manually, and rescrewing the cap back on. Duh. Type 2 on Metformin, diagnosed Jan 2013, ultra low carber, Hba1C at...

Carrying Diabetes ID on you ?

Diet only - definitely don't need to Metformin - probably don't need to, but there can be emergencies, like HONK and metabolic acidosis, that would make an ID card useful Gliclazide / insulin - a very good idea (although if found unconscious, the paramedics will always check your blood sugar...

    Magnesium supplements

Re: Magnesium supplements Thank you! Yes, it was your post. My tablets are very cheap ones too, just ASDA generic but they aren't soluble ones so I hope they work. They are 200mg, so I think I'm going to take two a day to start. Fingers crossed!

    Disposing of Test Strips

I put them in the bin. Lancets I put in a sealed container and put that in the bin. I use Unistix, though, in which the needle completely retracts (I even rubbed a used one across my cheek the other day, just to be sure). If they were actual needles I would probably make sure I had a sharps...

    weetabix v natural yogurt

Which one do you use? I'd happily do Easi Yo but I haven't yet seen one with lower carb than the full fat Greek yoghurt that I buy (3.2g carb/100g) Type 2 on Metformin, diagnosed Jan 2013, ultra low carber, Hba1C at diagnosis 8% (11mmol), now between 5 and 6 mmol. 13kg lost so far :)

    Magnesium supplements

I read in a thread recently that I can't find now that someone was taking magnesium supplements and it had effective lowered their blood sugar. Does anyone know the recommended dose to take for this purpose? I've bought some magnesium supplements from asda and they say one tablet supplies 80%...

    Newcastle Diet

I think you mustn't be disappointed because any more than 7lb in a week really would be meaningless water loss, not fat loss. That is the sort of weight which just goes straight back on when you start eating normally again. If you want reliable, meaningful fat loss then steadier is better.

    So confused! :(

Lea, you really don't need to separate carbs and sugar. Carbs ARE sugar. My guess is that you've had 161g carbs total (because labels tend to say "carbs xxx g Of which sugars xxx g). Counting one thing is quite enough :) we don't need to be counting two ;) Your figures sounds very very good...

    Lansoprazole and blood sugars

I would hazard an educated guess that with such conflicting reports, any effect one way or the other is probably marginal at best. After all, metformin, which is the number one first line drug for type 2 diabetes, only has an effect at maximum dosage of around 1-2 mmol. However, if you are on...

    Hi

Re: Hi Yes it's very frustrating when a phone has a passcode on so you can't get to the emergency contacts. Re diabetic tattoos, bracelets etc - I wouldn't for a minute say don't get one, if you want one, but if you are found unconscious the emergency medical services will ALWAYS take your...

    Pre diabetic or not

Are you a diagnosed diabetic? I have to say those readings sound absolutely plum normal to me (if you are diabetic, you have fabulous control). I think it would be quite unlikely that the symptoms you are experiencing are anything to do with diabetes. I hope you find an answer or feel better soon x
