    sitagliptin shortage

Anyone taking sitagliptin is exempt from prescription charges anyway so prescription charges don't really come in to the equation.. The cost to the NHS of sitagliptin is £33 for a 28x100mg pack making it one of the most expensive oral treatments for diabetes (in comparison generic metformin...

    Metformin......Query for a newbie

I started on the same dose and found three times a day was a bit of a bind. But I soon changed to 2x 850. It is less bother just taking two as you just have one with your first meal of the day and the other with your evening meal. They do also have a slow release version of Metformin which I...

    Xpert course

I did this course about 18 months ago. It seemed to be intended for any type 2's (and we had couple of type 1s present as well just for good measure). I became involved directly without any referral from the GP. In fact my DSN didn't even know about it's existence. The program was far from...

    Flu and pneumonia jabs

Well I've had the dreaded jab and I've now got a swollen red patch on my arm like I have been stung by a wasp or something. :( Been feeling rough all day with a nice high BG as well. Apart from that everything is just dandy LOL

    Are you a blood donor?!

I'm sorry to say that during the years when I could have given blood I never did. I was never very keen on having needles stuck in me. So I suppose it is ironic that in more recent years when I have become a something of a pin cushion anyway they no longer want it :(

    Flu and pneumonia jabs

    Flu and pneumonia jabs

I don't think it is wise to tell people not to have the jabs. Diabetics, especially ones with cardio-vascular and respiratory problems are at real risk, while most people have few side-effects with the jabs. So even if the protection is overrated it doesn't really do you much harm to have them.

    Hello newbie with question

Tiredness, exhaustion and depression are symptoms associated with many blood pressure medications. I have had similar problems with them. What is he talking? What sort of HbA1c level is he starting from? With Type 2s just taking Metformin it is the underlying glucose level that is of...

    Blood glucose monitors and equipment

I was given a meter on diagnosis (type 2 taking Metformin) at my GPs. Test strips and lancets are on NHS presciption. I was given a sharps bin by the PCT. I was taking my BG twice a day at first but now only a couple of times a week. People who's BG is stable and are not taking meds that make...

    Medication side affects

Hello Roger I take 1700mg/day in two doses which does have an effect on the guts, particuarly wind :x I know people who had worse problems and they were given the slow release version which can be taken all in one go with your main meal. Maybe you should ask the doctor about that. I think...

    Should I wear ID

What tabs are you taking? I don't think you would get it from 20-30 down to 6.3 in a week with Metformin :)

    Should I wear ID

I just carry a card in my wallet I made on the computer that just gives my critical medical conditions and medications. And also a contact number for next of kin. I wouldn't bother with a bracelet or anything unless I was expecting to start having hypos. Rob T2
