    Insulin Sensitivity

roughly 1 unit novorapid to 15g carbs, and 1 unit novarapid correction = 1mmol reduction. However massive varying factors in stress hormones mean my BG isn't that predictable, and my insulin sensitivity goes mental.

    Drinking and diabetes

Had the same out on a work do on Monday night, I didn't eat, or take bolus, my bg was 21.3 when I got home. My JD and diet coke clearly wasn't diet.

Not a place for type 1 support

I haven't found this place to be the most supportive when you post something that doesn't go with the accepted view. As for merging, I see T1 as different enough to warrant it's own space. Generally I think you need to be as self sufficient as possible, and this place is a great source of...

    Relationships

Sounds to me like diabetes is a convenient excuse for her, it's a cliche but you can do better than her.

Would you take a cure if it became available? Curious?

There is no cure for me, bar pancreas transplant. I had an episode of acute severe pancreatitis which destroyed my pancreas. Good luck to everyone else in getting a cure.

Rising BG levels during sports (any help?)

There's an interesting graph on Runsweet which Noble sent you that shows the effects, short term it rises, then if it's cardio it'll drop. The intensity of exercise makes a difference, very intense will push it up, and you also need to factor in stress hormones and adrenaline. Combat sports...

    The gym

My BG raises if I exercise for less than 45mins usually, but it's quite high intensity on the cardio. Everyone's different though.

Really bad leg cramps, advice needed

sounds like dehydration, the only time I have had bad pain/cramp in the night is when I'm dehydrated

    struggling bad

I think from what you describe a DAFNE course isn't the answer, your diabetes may be a catalyst for how you've been feeling, and not the cause. Having had the closest person to me in the world, my brother, go down the suicide route I can't emphasise enough how devastating it is for the family...

    Unsupportive partner?

Personally I have taken the approach to be autonomous with regards to managing my diabetes, as much as I love my wife I don't expect her to be an expert, or help me beyond basics such as having a hypo At the end of the day I go to work every day and manage it, go to the gym and manage it, and...

    Type 1 caused by pancreatitis

I've classed myself as T1, as that's what the doctors told me. However I had acute severe pancreatitis in December 2008, nearly died, blood pressure 190/240, near rate 140, just sat on a hospital bed. The destruction of my pancreas was severe, but I left hospital three weeks later when my BG...

It's been 35ºC today. How have your sugar levels been reacting?

It makes a big difference for me, lower my basal, and take less fast acting.

I am so scared. First assisted hypo.

I'm guess I'm lucky, even if <2 I still sort myself out.

I am so scared. First assisted hypo.

What's an assisted Hypo? I read it as deliberately having a hypo.

It's been 35ºC today. How have your sugar levels been reacting?

Mine were ok at work as air con office, but have lowered my basal a bit as a precaution. When I've been to hot countries I've needed a LOT less insulin, literally 40% less.

Think my Lantus no longer lasts 24 hours...

My Levemir has never lasted 24hrs, I just take an adjustment knowing it fades from 21-22hrs, err if I remember.

    Bad Hypo

As I get more experienced with T1 I have found a massive difference between doing cardio exercise such as running and cycling which will raise my BG in the short term, as it's high intensity. I have found that walking around, such as shopping, will lower my BG quite a bit, whilst higher...

Corporate lunches - what would you do?

I got burnt early after diagnosis, I took my bolus, and the food was drip served out taking hours, hypo'd big time. Do bolus for each course if it's spaced out.

    Your cases/bags

I rock a manbag for laptop & diabetes stuff, if going light just carry the meter, strips, pricker, and one in jacket pocket. If just out with mates for food & beers I just carry a novorapid pen, and some gluco tabs. Definitely an annoying aspect having to carry all the stuff around.

    Festivals?

It's just like going on any holiday, you need to take stuff with you, and take the relevant precautions. Just don't do what I did last year and leave all your insulin in a fridge in a hotel in the Amazon.
