    Correction doses

I have 1 unit novorapid to bring down 1 mmol, if I am at 8mmol or more I take action.

number of HbA1c tests done per year?

Appreciate your feedback, and advice. Not too bothered at the moment though, the only medical help I will pursue in the short term is insulin advice for sport. I work away loads, so don't think an appointment every 6 months that isn't movable really works for me. When I have a regular...

number of HbA1c tests done per year?

I've had 1 test in 2.5 Years from My GP, haven't been offered any others. It's about 18 months since I had my last HBA1C.

number of HbA1c tests done per year?

Zero at the moment, as a T1 in my area I have to be managed as a hospital outpatient, it's a shambles. Just about to cancel my latest outpatients appointment at hospital as have to work away in three weeks time when it's due. The last time I saw the hospital as an outpatient was in Nov 2013...

54yrs T1, survived despite best efforts of NHS and Novo ,

Have been shot down in previous threads for saying this, but I definitely think taking artificial insulin has made me put on weight. I gained the weight I lost pre diagnosis, and have put more on, not loads, I'm 6'3 and 14.5st, but had always been lean pre T1. I find it difficult to lose...

Does this happen to all Type 1's...?

I was diagnosed T1 2.5 yrs ago, aged 38, it's been a good while since I tried to explain anything to anyone. I generally find people respectful though, other than the "can you eat that?" comment which really gets my goat.

One hour cycling lowers my BG levels by 10% to 20%

I find that cycling lowers my BG more than other exercises such as running, I think it's due to cycling being less intense for me and my heart rate is <80% of maximum, for some reason my heart rate is much higher when running.

Why was the DLA thread locked?

I just tried to post, there were some good points being raised and challenged. I was interested as to whether legally i am classed as disabled, as about to start a new job and wanted to explore more of the potential implications.

    Need to talk to someone...

I am T1, and my wife and I have been struggling to conceive, I'd snap your hand off to have the opportunity to conceive,

Going on about diabetes too much

For myself the only reason to tell colleagues is because of the unlikely event that I hypo.

    Struggling to cope

Definitely you should include treats, my medical advice has been to make sure I match the insulin to the carbs intake, myself it's 1 unit of Novarapid per 15g of carbs. However also important to generally have a healthy diet and exercise, so treats are treats and not the norm day to day...

    Struggling to cope

Ho Shabso, no need to despair. It's a hell of a lot to get your head around, but you will learn a hell of a lot, in a short space of time. The injecting just becomes the norm, and shouldn't be at all painful. As for food, and favourite foods, as a T1 you just need to know your carbs and cals...

Any exciting exercise plans for the summer?

Not really summer, but have entered the Budapest half marathon in September, doing it with friends from when I lived there. The problem is I started training in Feb, from a base of not having run in years, but I do cycle, gym etc, and I trapped a nerve in my back, and tweaked a knee ligament...

What Carbs do we all count

Never been on DAFNE or any course, I try to count everything, but quite a bit of the time it's just a wild guess.

Does Insulin make you gain weight?

I went to see a sports nutritionist who specialises in diabetes, and I got by far the best help since being diagnosed, I've not seen my consultant in 1.5yrs, but that's a different story. I explained to her about being probably a stone or so over my ideal weight (well what feels right for me)...

Does Insulin make you gain weight?

Absolutely not for me, eat less carbs than pre diabetes and weigh a stone more. I know what I say is anecdotal, and will be ignored, but it's true.

Going on about diabetes too much

When I was diagnosed I tended to explain stuff to family & friends, now I rarely talk about it. I start a new job in a couple of months time and I'm contemplating whether to tell them. I don't want to start and be defined as the guy who's got diabetes, so will probably just tell people i work...

    LCHF and alcohol

Alcohol lowers my BG, just have to snack a few carbs and keep an eye on the BG.
