Ideas for a Low Carb NO Fat diet

My understanding is, a high fat diet increases your HDL (good) levels of cholesterol. It has certainly done that for me. My diabetic dietician was amazed at my fantastically improved levels of HDL, against all her training and NHS advise she said, but exactly the same as another patient who is...

    2 weeks on low carb

You can download Dr Bernstein's solution book on kindle and iBooks for about £5.00. I think you will find it a very interesting and educational read. I follow his solution.,it works for me.

Hello...New LADA and need Med's advice.

The problem with 6.0 (pre breakfast) is that I would normally be 0.5 lower at bedtime, thus 5.5.... And taking insulin at 5.5 before bed is scarey, especially as I have on the odd occasion checked my BG in the middle of the night and it has always been lower still..... I don't think a few 6.00s...

Hello...New LADA and need Med's advice.

Should have added......If you can't get lower than these levels, then in my opinion, yes, you should go on insulin. You have said you are already low carbing, not sure how low. If you are around 36g carbs already then there probably isn't a lot more you can do. If you are above 36g per day, then...

Hello...New LADA and need Med's advice.

Hi bravopapa I was diagnosed LADA 13months ago, with similarish BG levels that you currently have. My diabetes consultant advised me to stop taking the Gliclazide as he said it can do more damage than good (squeezes the insulin making beta cells till there is nothing left, I think we're his...

Anyone following Dr Bernstein diabetic solution

I agree, but I was on a LcHf diet before I started on the Dr Bernstein's solution, within a week my BG levels dropped 30%, and have stayed that way.... I also see it as sustainable for life.

Anyone following Dr Bernstein diabetic solution

Just checking his book. He says butter is ok (that's good I have loads!!), and he goes on to say that 'butter is now a healthy fat'.... Although coconut oil is perhapse the healthiest of all.

Anyone following Dr Bernstein diabetic solution

I have been following Dr Bernstein's solution for 6 months now. It works for me. When he says 'no fruit, no milk' etc. it's because it raises his (and my) BG levels. I don't think dairy is banned, I eat double cream, it doesn't raise my BG levels. Like Dr B, I eat to my meter, if my meter says...

    " Eat Fat " - Trudi Deakin's New Book

I think things are changing. We often eat at a Toby carvery. I always ask for lots of fat, the fatty bits nobody else wants, but more recently have been told that's lots more people have also been asking for it!!!

Anyone following Dr Bernstein diabetic solution

Hi rowan My viewpoint on Dr Bernstein's solution is that it's not about diet but about keeping your BG levels at around 4.6 fasting and 5.6 2 hours after eating. In order to achieve this he recommends exercise, medication and a low carb (36g per day) diet with no fruit (except avocado), I...

    Peeing in the night

High BG levels for me. If I am up 3 or 4 times my pre breakfast BG levels will be above 7 If I am up twice, between 6 and 7 Once, between 5 and 6 Not up at all, and I know for sure my BG levels will be 5 or under. Also same during the day, if I find myself regularly peeing, my BG levels will...

The effect of protein in a T1 on low carb

I to have to watch protein. To much protein affects my BG levels for at least 6 hrs and sometimes I think as much as days. I am a T1 in the honeymoon period and not on insulin yet, so maybe I can see more clearly the effect of protein. I now avoid all lean meats, especially chicken breast. Lamb...

Now the X-PERT advice is low carb, high fat

I have been LcHf for around 9 months now. BMI 22 when I started, I lost a stone in weight and went down to BMI 21, I did not want to loose weight, but managed to put the weight back on by going higher fat. My diet is now around 5% carb, 15% protein, 80% fat. And I have maintained my weight with...

Any sure signs of LADA ?

Completely agree, the odd 7+ is not definitive, but as soon as it becomes 'normal' i would have thought it must be. Only time will tell, in the mean time, I am sure lowering carbs will help get back towards normal.

Any sure signs of LADA ?

Hi Lesley I am LADA, no insulin or meds. My BG readings are normally between 4.6 and 5.6, but they always increase whenever I am travelling or ill. So far I have always been able to get them back to 'normal' whenever I have returned to normal, but at some point they won't, and that will be when...

How many different 'types' are there? Diagnoses Stories.

With a positive GAD test a year ago my consultant said I was LADA. A few months back at a hospital appointment a new (to me) DSN read out my notes, which said I was a T1 in the honeymoon stage. No mention of LADA in my notes at all.
