An interesting article looking at the impact of Protein on blood glucose levels

I guess they have enough insulin making beta cells to easily counteract a slow rise in BG levels. But maybe once someone has started to loose a few beta cells their ability to rapidly reduce high carb or even slow protein rises diminishes.

How many different 'types' are there? Diagnoses Stories.

And I am sure some of us are more prone to the triggers than others, and this is probably genetic.... Some of us originate from carb eating origins some from fat eating origins. If they could establish this they would really be on to something. They know already Scandinavians are more prone to...

An interesting article looking at the impact of Protein on blood glucose levels

Very interesting. My diet is around 5% carb, 20% protein, 75%fat. When my protein is higher, my BG levels after 2 hrs eating are not detectably higher, but they do not drop back so quick. For example I may be 4.8 before eating, 5.6 2hr after then, with a high protein meal I could well be 5.8...

How many different 'types' are there? Diagnoses Stories.

i think one of the problems is, no one knows our BG levels before diagnosis. It's not until you become diabetic that you know your BG levels.... My feeling, we all had high BG levels prior to diagnosis..... The question is.... Why?

How many different 'types' are there? Diagnoses Stories.

I was dx T2 sept 2013 (rushed to hospital), then upon my request for a GAD test T1 honeymoon period / LADA dec 2013. My consultant then said to me it doesn't matter what your diagnosis is really, regardless of treatment, everyone ends up on insulin eventually. He also said there was normally a...

How many different 'types' are there? Diagnoses Stories.

I believe this to be true.... I am no expert, but have read up a lot. I think that, whatever the trigger is, it causes high blood sugar levels (illnes, stress, too many carbs etc could be the trigger or more than likely a combination of all). I still believe very strongly that had I been on a...

    Low carb and weight training....

Could you be slipping in and out of ketogenic? When going into ketogenics many get weak and feel ill for a few days. To be ketogenic you need to be very low carb and low protein.

Higher sugar level after moderate walking

I find that 90% of the time exercise lowers my BG levels, but certainly not all the time. I am beginning to wonder if there is any correlation between higher BG levels and lower temperatures when exercising. If I go out for a 20 min jog, and it's cold outside it takes me 15mins to warm up...

An older and wiser new LADA

Hi Lucy, I guess a lot depends on how you interpret Dr Bernstein's 'Solution'. My interpretation is that it is not a diet. It is about keeping BG levels at normalised levels. Insulin, diet, medication and exercise are all allowed, indeed encouraged, if this gets you to the normalised BG levels...

    New to LCHF diet

In my opinion (I am no expert but low carbing) eat as much vegetables and salad as you like... I don't think you can eat too much veg (apart from potatoes) As its all low carb. Some root veg, Carots etc are higher than leafy veg, but still ok in small quantities, tomatoes the same. Hopefully you...

    New to LCHF diet

Sounds like you are already ketogenic. Many people find when they first start very low carbing they feel rough, often flue like. But it passes, normally I believe in a few days, and most people say once you are through it, you start to feel much better, fitter and stronger. I have been ketogenic...

    New to LCHF diet

I use carbs and cals... An app I have dowloaded on my iPhone. It shows photos of the selected food on a plate, so you can see / portion size, which is very important. I don't think you can have any fruit at all on 10g carbs per day. A handful of berries is about 10g. Berries and fruit capable...

Type 1 Honeymoon Period... Very vague to me!

Hi wollyfuller I was diagnosed T2 15months ago then T1 honeymoon / LADA a year ago. I am 57. BMI 22. My consultant said to me a year ago that I would be on insulin within weeks... I am still not on insulin or any meds and have good BG level control (hba1c 5.1%). It varies so much from person to...

How low do you go................with carbohydrates.

I am much the same, around 36 per day, but not counting so realistically it is between 30 and 40 per day, depending on quantity of salad and veg I have. I feel this is sustainable for life, and quite easily achievable any and every day. I now actually concern myself more with protein than...

    eggs

I have gone from around 1 egg per week to 2 eggs per day (and LcHf) over the last year. My cholesterol is now better than it was, blood tests on liver, kidney etc are also very good. My diabetic diatician says carry on eating as you are because your blood tests show you are healthier, with no...

LCHF diet and new blood test results

I am on a LCHF diet and I initially (9months ago) found it difficult to sustain weight, and initially lost a stone, but I have put it back on again and a little more. I have done this through eating more fat, choosing fatty cuts of meat (lamb chops etc), avoiding chicken breast (little fat)...
