    I'm not eating enough

Well, the first thing to know is that, yes, diabetes can be serious and disruptive, but it's also a disease of self-management and self-awarenenss. Many of us have found it to be a partly positive thing in that it's made us clean up our eating habits, get fitter and pay more attention to our...

    Don't understand

Keep a diary of when and what you eat and what your readings are and you'll see what pattern your body follows before too long. You'll find eating at different times of day will impact your meter, as well as whether you're eating high-fat foods and so on. Everyone's patterns are a little...

Do we just live too long?

Oh, sorry! I may have stripped carbs from my diet, but they're still firmly embedded in my language! Apologies - didn't mean to be, you know... awful. Cucumber and a cool glass of... something low-cal? <3

Do we just live too long?

I think dark, but a lot of us are trying to turn our torches on. Get some popcorn - Chook's movie is pretty good!

Do we just live too long?

Or all the people you've made miserable? Incidentally, all that medical science is done - for the most part - by people in their 40's, because until then they're training, learning, practising, specialising. I'm also super-enjoying the implication that us girls return to being nothing more...

    Don't understand

Those readings are well within your meter's variance, too. Plus there's all the internal stuff that'll raise your BG - stress, illness, exercise, even just being annoyed and taking a reading at the peak of that moment. Those meter numbers aren't solid and 100% accurate - they're a rough guide...

    Type 2 BG readings

How are you today, @James1968 - are you feeling better? Was your fasting BG reading any better? Did you seek medical advice? Hope you're on the mend now. Sock x

    Type 2 BG readings

Hi @James1968 Sorry to bug you with more questions but what (and when) was your last HbA1c and are you following a particular diet or just eating "sensibly" (according to NHS guidelines, eg)? Also, yes, go for a walk and burn some of that sugar up and do keep an eye on that BG. Do consider...

No Almond flour locally, so have to order online

I know the shop on this site sells it, and I trust their selection of products: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/shop/food

We know spikes are bad, but……

I was quoting commonly-given advice from lots of sources. If we all checked our BG an hour after eating, we'd mostly all be hysterical with anxiety. On top of that, we don't know the OP's last HbA1c, diet, targets or, really, anything. We all spike 1 hour after eating - it's precisely why we...

We know spikes are bad, but……

Don't test 1 hour after food. Discard those readings and test only at 2 hours after eating. According to what you've written there, pre-meal is 5.6, 2 hours after is 5.4 - you're absolutely fine. Wait for 2 hours after you've eaten before testing <3 Sock :)

Time for new NHS diet guidelines?

The NHS encourages innovation- I know! It's shocking! But through NHS England and the CQC, innovation is both encouraged and rewarded. In hospitals there are "CQUIN"s - https://www.england.nhs.uk/nhs-standard-contract/cquin/cquin-16-17/ - specific targets that pay out extra cash and stem from...

My logistical nightmare and other worries!

Sounds like a crazy exciting itinerary! You could try calling the companies you're flying with and asking for their specific policies for insulin. You might get lucky and even persuade someone to give you something in writing that you can keep with you on the flight, just in case you get...

    Newly diagnosed and confused

Hi @Hampshire_Lad and welcome to the forums :) Can I ask what your HbA1c (the blood test) results were (you should have had 2 to confirm a diagnosis, but often one is enough to refer on to specialist services and the second comes later)? Before I go further, I'm going to tag in @daisy1 and...

    Helo wAtch

Hey there, @barrym ! I was thinking of exactly that thread when I wrote my reply - I didn't realise it was exactly the same product that was being discussed here. And yeah, it's an MLM which is the legal workaround of the old pyramid models - those who get in early get paid.

There is no other HELO watch, wearable monitoring system coming up on a search, though the one I've found has made vague promises about being able to do so in the future. There are more reputable advances being made in wearable BG tech, though, as some recent threads explored. One that has me a...

Heya, @nessa1970 A quick google brought me here: http://www.helosmart.com/ There's no mention of BG monitoring, but there is lots of other stuff, including a bit of questionable science. What it also doesn't tell you is that the device stores your data remotely, and to access it, you...
