I'm sorry, @therower but ULS? I'm assuming that means Unbelievably Lithe and Sexy..?

Just saying you were an early bloomer, Snaps :D You got off quite lucky - I was going to stage it in a 1960's sci-fi show...

    Type 2 Red wine

Honestly, @carol43 my feeling on this is that red wine (and other drinks) are to be drunk according to personal choice and pleasure. It's not medication, there is no optimal dose. It's booze and still to be drunk in moderation according to your personal choice, habits and preferences. If you...

    My patience just ran out.

Oh @Guzzler I'm sorry to hear you're having such a tough time - I really had no idea. I don't want to give you more advice except to follow what your body is telling you. Right now it's telling you something's not right - so give yourself a week off, settle, calm, think. Then come back, change...

    Ketone queries

https://www.endocrineweb.com/news/diabetes/15021-whats-behind-fdas-warning-about-diabetic-ketoacidosis-sglt2-inhibitors Gosh, had I read that article 2 months ago, I would have been terrified to try LCHF- or my meds. The truth is, since that article was written, there has been enough evidence...

    ice cream

Completely agree! I can think I'm sneaking in a cheeky Magnum and getting away with it because my 2-hour test is relatively low, but the downside is my BG will be slightly elevated for the next 12 hours.

    ice cream

Food with a high fat content will slow carb absorption and, thus, delay your BG spike. The sugar is still there, causing mischief, but it's not there in one big rush. So, no, it won't lower your BG, but it will make the sugar in it hit your BG more slowly. Hope that helps!

I can see it now... [SCENE: A nightclub circa 1980. Blondie's "Atomic" plays loudly. Neon lights flash in time to the beat and the dance floor is awash with lace gloves and back-combed hair. Men in military coats and badly-fitting faux-leather trousers watch women dance around their tiny...

    Ketone queries

Oooh, that's a good point there, @Alison Campbell - I am still on the GlucoPee (and still at a fairly hefty 25mg dose) and while I was aware that would account for glucose being present, I hadn't considered that it would also leave a deficit in the glucose it gets out of my blood. I know the...

    Doctors Thursday a.m, diabetic pm

I always tend to be hasty in my replies and am more eager to get reassurance out there than check the proper facts. I'm sorry! But, yes, remission is a T2 thing - I more wanted to highlight the power of a "good" (what works for an individual) diet - I just can't speak for what T1's qualify as a...

    New one on me....

I have to admit, I like the idea, but am uncomfortable believing this: When it's said by someone who does this: No-one likes it. But we all do it because it's important to self-management.* "Sore fingers - can't be bothered until Wednesday!" isn't the mantra of an advocate of...

    Doctors Thursday a.m, diabetic pm

Hi, Sue and welcome! First thing - take a breath! You're okay. Actually, you're exactly the same as you were before your appointment, only now you've got an extra word to describe you. Nothing else has changed. And now you've got a new word, you get to decide what its definition means to you...

    Carbohydrates with zero sugar

Don't apologise, and certainly not twice. Everyone has those days, and everyone gets a pass to have those days. Get well and feel better soon, eh? Sock <3

    What is going on

Heya! @Brunneria knows far, far more about this than me, but I had a sort of idea about what might be happening. Your body is throwing a sugar tantrum. 1. Diet controlled for 3 years. Low carb, effective. Weight melted away, huzzah! 2. "Ate everything and anything" for a week? 2 weeks? Body...

    Carbohydrates with zero sugar

It's an international technicality: in the UK, dietary fibre isn't counted as a carb (eventhough it technically is one) because it passes through the body undigested. It binds things together and is generally very good us (our colon and bowels), but contributes no calories to our diets. Because...

Type 1 How often do you need to change bg moniters

Not to sound a little bit miffed, but that information is in that .PDF I linked right there for you. It's fine to ask for help, but it takes anyone else as long to source this info as it would you - and the information you need is literally one click away.

    Ketone queries

It's real;y interesting. And the truth is, reading everything I've read, I shouldn't be in ketosis at all - I'm still hovering around (and often just over) 50g carbs / day and I'm not limiting my protein intake at all - that ranges between 75 and 100+ g/day. My overall calories intake is around...

Type 1 How often do you need to change bg moniters

I have no idea, but all 3 of my meters say to perform control solution tests and a quick google of the meter the OP uses gives the same advice in a downloadable .pdf booklet: https://www.accu-chek.com/download/file/fid/14356 (clicking will download the "Accu-Chek Aviva Expert Standard Owner's...

Type 1 How often do you need to change bg moniters

I think (I'm probably wrong and have only been using BG monitors a few weeks) that it's down to a regular schedule of testing their accuracy using the control fluids. All my meters recommend performing a control test - If a reading seems wonky - Upon opening a new batch of strips - At routine...

    Type 1 Diabetes backups

I got my TEE2 free (and the test strips are wonderfully cheap, too, £7.75 and you don't pay VAT if you're diabetic and they've worked that in). As with most meters, it comes with all the usual stuff, case, lancing device etc... Plus it has some nice functions which I appreciate and, out of the 3...
