Type 1 in ketosis and not losing the body fat

I've read the science, and the anecdotal tails. Ketosis burns the fat. But insulin counters the burn and stores fat. Being T1 I have to inject insulin, and I feel it's canceling out me being in ketosis. Its maddening. Being in ketosis has had other benefits, like lowered amount of insulin are...

    Looking for amazing Sci-fi audiobook

I've not long finished listening to the entire The First Law by Joe Abercrombie read by Stephen Pacey. Utterly superb. It's a kind of medieval setting, with a smidge of magic. I guess in the GoT vein where it's not fantasy per-se but more real. Anyway, I've been wanting to listen to another...

Which is best. More Basal or more Bolus?

Yes, I did try out 7 units to see if I was indeed taking too much insulin. Nope. 7u was far too low. To be fair I should have started reducing my basal in much smaller doses rather than go full on down to 7u. Still, I learned a valuable lesson... via high bs for a few weeks (and taking more...

Which is best. More Basal or more Bolus?

Oh flip. You're right. It's per injection, not total for the day!! How could I have read this wrongly?! Hey ho, it makes total sense now. Thanks you guys. I'll be keeping my 32u dose, though it never seemed to be an issue taking it all before bed. Still, on my original question, what do you...

Which is best. More Basal or more Bolus?

In his book on page 106: "I have a very obese patient who requires 27 units of long-acting insulin at bedtime. He's so insulin-resistant that there's no way to keep his blood sugar under control without this massive dose. In order to ameliorate the unpredictability of large doses, he splits his...

Which is best. More Basal or more Bolus?

The PDF of his book is on my work pc. It for a walk at the mo. I'll take a look when I get back [emoji4]

Which is best. More Basal or more Bolus?

I was skeptical too. A lot of what he says is good, but the basal he talks about might have been from decades past. I can sure say that 7 for me doesn't work.

Which is best. More Basal or more Bolus?

Hi everyone, Which is best. More Basal or more Bolus? What are your opinions on this question? I was reading Dr. Bernstein's book Diabetes Solution - A Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars and in it he says that people shouldn't be taking more than 7 units of Basal insulin. Now 've...

    Best sugar substitute?

I'm think more for puddings, etc. Haven't had sweet beverages for decades, but making a cheesecake would need some sugar in the cheese. I did make a cream cheese pud this weekend and used xylitol and it was nice. I do believe xylitol is one of the sweeteners that don't impact keto or blood sugars.

    Best sugar substitute?

This is an old post, but I was looking for info on sweeteners. However, I'm not sure if Dan is being funny, but this is a ridiculous piece of advice. I mean, yes, you could consume sugar and shoot up with more insulin, but the whole point of these forums is to help with good advice. Isn't it...

    Question about treating hypos

Not really. Once the glucose is in the blood stream it's job done. More often than not I find that this small dose of food will get my bs level. After that I'll be up and about with my daily routine. If I consume some jelly babies or something then my bs goes too high requiring insulin to correct.

explaining what it's really like to live with Type 1

I just came up with a metaphor: Could be like the Terminator. It absolutely will not stop until you are dead. And you are Sarah Connah, constantly monitoring your blood sugars (before you eat, after you eat, before bed, when you wake up, before you drive or even before leaving the house for any...

    Question about treating hypos

Sorry dude, but I did chuckle when I read this. As I've over eaten on a hypo too. Out comes the cereal, the bread, the sweets. Oh god, it tastes amazing when you're hypoing. And it's in the early hours you go back to bed and wake up in a sweat with bs over 20!! Like you I learned the hard way...

    New job and diabetes.

Like you @Dorgeler I work in an IT environment, though it is software testing. I've highs and simply taken a dose of Humalog and cracked on. For about 95% it doesn't impact my work or ability the other 5% is having the hot sweat and a small lack in concentration. However, if I'm having a hypo...

I was Type 1 all along

If your body can't produce insulin, or are high insulin resistant, then you could head up to 30+ on your BS (very dangerous/coma territory). A few years ago I had a particularly large carby meal with pudding and sweets and things. I must have forgotten my insulin as when I was feeling awful I...

That made me laugh. Sounds like you've developed resilience to doctors [emoji4] Some are idiots and don't listen to their patients and assume their patients don't know anything. Grr. I'd like to have the Southampton doc, Dr Unwin as my doc. He actually understand the ketogenic diet and...

I was Type 1 all along

Good find. It's a massive article, but did you know that this is apparently a new test for patients, as it's now cheaper to run. It was started for diagnoses about 5 years ago, I was told. Before that it was created for and solely used by homicide forensics. They did the c-pep test to...
