My back is spasming in our weather changes. Heating pad, hot bath, and currently really enjoying a muscle relaxer (which has knocked all of the twitch out of it, but I’m having a hard time walking). Should just fix a drink and call the day done, but I still have to get ready for work tomorrow...

    Secure a lifted libre

Here’s another “win” with the Libre system- the transmitter is built into the sensor. So if you loose it, a new sensor replaces all of it. The Dexcom and MiniMed systems have a separate transmitter that attaches to the sensor. (And also needs to be charged). If the sensor falls off you also...

    Secure a lifted libre

In speaking with the people at Libre (Abbott Diabetes Care) they will look for an error code on the receiver. If the sensor has stopped working they’ll replace it. So if he looses it there still isn’t a problem. They’ll replace it.

    Secure a lifted libre

You could just call the company. If they can see the problem with an error code they’ll replace the sensor.

For Valentine’s Day I went on the hunt for chocolate dipped strawberries. Was successful downtown. It was nice to see the downtown was still decorated with ice sculptures. I know it’s been cold, so the ice would do well. But anytime something nice goes up, vandals do something ridiculous...

Got lucky today in our snowstorm. A covid vaccination clinic was going on, and they didn’t have enough people- it was going to be wasted if it wasn’t used. So I drove over and had the shot even before I could finish the paperwork. They were taking anybody who wanted it. So I drove home...

How long have you had T1

42 years. This spring will add another. Diabetes has become easier with understanding and technology. We have come a very long way.

    Just changed to Omnipod Dash

Another pod problem that I experienced was what to do in the event of a failure. They wanted me to haul too much stuff to support a failure, like a whole bottle of insulin and a replacement pod. When I go out on my bike I want to be spartan and go light. There is only soo much space to store...

    Just changed to Omnipod Dash

I have site issues. Too many cannula failures. With a pump with a separate infusion set I just changed it, and I’m good to go until it needs to be changed again. I was excited for the pod for its angled cannula, and it’s shorter cannula length. But you don’t get to control the angle...

    Are my ratios normal?

I think I use all of those ratios in one day! You can have/need/use different l:C ratios at different times of the day. In the morning I need more- 1:6. Lunchtime is 1:8. Dinner is 1:10. On weekends 1:6 in the morning and the rest of the day is 1:10. Less stress on the weekends and more...

    Just changed to Omnipod Dash

I was a pod person for about a month. I learned a lot. It was neat. But it wasn’t for me. If you go through a site- or a pod failure, make sure to save the filling syringe so that you can suck the un-used insulin out of the failed pod. Do not waste this insulin by discarding it. Suck it out.

Everything everywhere is broken right now. Actually seeing a doctor is very difficult. I had a friend that received a new pump- from a 523 pump to a 730 pump. It was easier for me to train them than their doctor. Seeing a doctor isn’t an easy thing right now. It was only about entering...

There were more. It was just too cold to make images. There was a praying mantis that was still in process that was incredible, but was overly complex. But the carvers were working on it!

    Time for Mod Elections?

If you’ve ever done the mod job, you’d just thank the current ones and let them ride. They seem to work very quickly and quietly here. That’s a good thing.

Images from our local ice festival. These were some of my favorites. The fan tail topped my list!

Ice carving festival today. And it is cold! Maybe that’ll be good for the festival, or maybe not. Just have to wait and see what the artist do with it. My goal with this festival will be to view it from my car and only drive by it.

    Type 2 Left leg cramps

I have a problem with muscle cramps. Some say take potassium. Other say magnesium. I think magnesium is the answer, but I take both. I find when I take too much magnesium my legs don’t fire that well on my bike. So I have to take enough to not let my feet cramp, but not too much so my legs can...

Fear of needles, can’t take insulin

Insulin just needs to be injected under the skin. Not into the muscle mass below. Remember this! Sometimes I use a short chip clip to pinch up the skin and make a tent. The chip clip hurts, but it’s a distraction for the injection site. Then I inject into the raised up portion of skin. The...

We wheeled our Jeep on Friday through a forest. Looking to maybe repeat this tomorrow. Friday was dark, snowy, and very, very cold- hard to keep the cabin of the Jeep warm as we basically idled up, down, and around obstacles. Hopefully tomorrow will be more cooperative in the weather...
