why does normal Bg make me feel hypo?

Omnipod is right with that ratio I'm sure as I was about 60kg when I started on it and have kept my dose the same 60mg ever since. I remember there are some guides online about effective dosage for retinopathy too. Make sure you buy the proper branded stuff as it's not all the same pure quality...

why does normal Bg make me feel hypo?

Yes the aim is to reduce gradually. I went from having BG easily over 14 to suddenly having BG around 7 in the space of about 6 weeks. Had I been more aware I would have aimed to go from 14 to 10-12 then from that to 8 etc Basically take it slowly and steadily and don't change everything at...

    Meter Change

OMG I would be so annoyed if my GP did this. I found this link that might help you: http://www.inputdiabetes.org.uk/glucose-monitoring/access-to-test-strips/

why does normal Bg make me feel hypo?

Mind you just to add that I had been diabetic about 15 years at the point I tightened my control so was more vulnerable to complications. A new diabetic would probably have got away with it.

why does normal Bg make me feel hypo?

@this is too difficult two I found medical research papers discussing it when I was researching to try and understand what had happened to me. The sudden tighter control of my BG triggered retinopathy in both my eyes. Some consultants/eye specialists are aware of this but many aren't. One...

why does normal Bg make me feel hypo?

Hi Marie. You should aim to improve control gradually as sudden tight control can cause problems. I was never told this and so I developed retinopathy which could have been prevented had I been warned. I also had fake hypos when my control was improving but don't worry it will pass. Well done on...

Not sure if ill or set issue

Annie I have tested for ketones as was always told your BG had to be 14 or higher to get them. Is this not the case? Will go and dig my ketone meter out as might be worth checking.

Not sure if ill or set issue

Yes that's why I changed the set this morning but then because I was still having issues I wondered if I was ill. Wasn't sure how to check set without eating a meal. I forced down some toast and BG went to 7.2 and then back to 4.4 so I guess it's working ok (unlike previous one that was very...

Not sure if ill or set issue

I haven't ben correcting with a pen so far as I tend to only do that if BG reaches 14 or higher or if I'm sure set has failed. Right now I just need to be sure new cannula is working and I'm not sure how to work that out whilst being ill or if I'm even ill just because set isn't working right...

Not sure if ill or set issue

Hello I did my set change on Saturday and had ventured further round my side almost on my back. Two hours into set BG was 10 (high for me) but did eventually come down so set was working. I put this high down to over treating a hypo I'd had before change. Next morning I had my usual crumpet...

    I've broken my pump!

Animas send out spare and replacement battery caps so I would contact your pump supplier to see if they do the same.

    Vibe Lithium batteries :-(

Cheapest place I've found for batteries is Amazon but I'll stick with the Animas free ones for the pump. I spend enough on batteries for my son's toys already!!

    Vibe Lithium batteries :-(

Somewhere in the info Animas tell you that when the low battery alarm sounds you have approx an hour to change the battery. I have found this to be true. I get my batteries from Animas and I watch when the indicator hits 2 bars. My pump flicks between 2-3 bars and then when it hits 2 bars...

    Should I return to injections???

I agree with CarbsRok. You need to take control of your own diabetes asap. What are you going to do if this DSN leaves the clinic and the next one expects you to be ok on pump? I have been diabetic since age 4 and my parents always encouraged independence. I was injecting myself aged 7 and...

    Highs at night

Try the link below to help you work out how much to adjust your basal and when. You are probably getting the high BG due to dawn phenomenon and so getting your overnight basal is really important. I was testing hourly overnight when first on the pump to get this sorted. Good luck :)...

    Occlusion alarm holding cannula down

Yes I think you might have set the alarm off pushing down. Sometimes the set is near a muscle, bone or vein and it's ok as long as you don't mess with it. I've had a good set fail because I lay on it in bed and the pressure must have caused it to hit something or kink. I'm told you can kink...

    Changing my cannula

My DSN told me same thing but changing the whole lot together just didn't work for me. I use Teflon sets so change every 3 days. I fill my reservoir up (about 180u) and this lasts about 4 days and then I change it and the tubing together. The tubing can start to degrade, affecting insulin, after...

    Insulin pumps

Is the baby carrier the only option? What about a buggy? Also have you tried putting your cannulas in the area on the front between ribs and waistline? That was a great place for me when carrying my son about. You might find angled sets work better as more likely to bolus into good fat. I think...

    Insulin pumps

@ConradJ I'm on the Animas and used to find bolusing painful sometimes. Have you changed the delivery setting to slow? I only ever bolus 2.5u in one go which solved the issue for me. So if I need 6u I do 2.5u, pause, another 2.5u, pause again and then a final 1u. I tried the steel sets for...
