How do you decided if a working set is not working correctly

Re: How do you decided if a working set is not working corre My BG seems back to normal with new set but I probably did panic with the other one. I think I was so worried about having a working set for tomorrow that I gave up on it earlier than I would have if it was a normal day. I am now...

How do you decided if a working set is not working correctly

Re: How do you decided if a working set is not working corre Carbsrok I thought that too at first but an hour after doing that bolus of 5.95u (0.95 correction and the rest for breakfast) my sugars had gone up and I know that's not right. I started to feel ill so I didn't want to chance anything...

How do you decided if a working set is not working correctly

So I did my set change yesterday lunch. After 2 hours BG 7.6 and after 3 hours 5.6 so was happy set was working. Ate dinner that night and bedtime BG was 7.0 Still had some insulin on board but bolused an extra 0.5u to make sure I got back to target. This morning my BG was 7.3 which is very...

    Self funding in the UK

Hello I looked at self funding and discussed it with my clinic. They told me they would not give me any NHS training or advice etc and I would be going it alone. I am not sure if they HAVE to help me had I self funded but they were certainly very anti dealing with private pumpers. Just worth...

    Infusion set advice

Are all the sets from the same batch? You could have a faulty batch. This happened to me before Christmas with my Insets and a new batch sorted the problems. Also is your insulin ok? If it's gone off it can cause problems. Are the sets kinked when you remove them?

    Hypos per week on pump

I'm terrified of complications too. I'm blind in one eye and have had all the laser possible in my other. I would be happy with an HbA1c in the 6s but am scared of one 7 or above. Maybe I shouldn't be. I'm not hypo unaware but I also worry about becoming that way. Getting the balance is very...

    Insulin pumps and sex!!

I am lucky that I'm happily married but even my husband and I found it awkward to adjust to the pump in the early days. My brother is totally grossed out by even the thought of it though and he is fine with seeing the pump as long as he doesn't have to see the set. I guess it's one of those...

    Hypos per week on pump

So just had my clinic and slightly annoyed. was always told that I had to run slightly high on MDI due to brittle diabetes and therefore bad hypos on tight control. However was told this would cause problems etc and so that's why I was advised to get pump. So have tightened my control and set...

    Lift Plus Spray alternative?

Thanks for all the replies!! I now have Apeel on prescription but not sure why none of the local pharmacies can get Lift Plus anymore. Just happy there is a simple alternative :)

    bath time

If I am having a long bath (40 mins to 1 hour before reconnecting) I find I need to give about 50%-60% of my basal rate for that hour. I always disconnect to bath or shower and always need to bolus at least 50% of my basal. The only time I don't do this is if I have had a recent low BG. This...

    Drinking Alcohol with a Pump

I don't drink very often but when I have on the pump I have had really erratic BG, mainly high. I got so fed up with it I've stopped drinking so I'm very interested to see what other pumpers do. What are you drinking? I almost always drink spirits and on MDI I mixed things with fruit juice as I...

    Inset II users

Sandra I always find it interesting how different pumping is for people, even using the same pump and sets! Just out of interest does your son leave the old set in for a period? Is your son lean? I think the temp basal for me is due to anxiety over the set change. Although I'm better than I was...

2 months on the pump - update

Well done!!    I remember my old target used to be 7-8 when first pumping and now it's 5.3!! :) Haven't done my HbA1c yet as I was stalling until the last minute (HATE giving blood) and then had to cancel my appt to do it as my son was ill. Looking...

    Inset II users

Just to update I seem to be doing better with my Insets since this post (hope I'm not tempting fate here!) CarbsRok I think you were right that firing once into air was doing something to the set. Maybe not every time but since you suggested it I've been making sure I pull back and fire...

    Pizza on the pump

Well it worked the other way this time. BG after 4 hours was 11.2 so bolused again. Then set a temp basal of +30% for 4 hours and went to bed. Woke up at 4.5 so very happy with that!! I didn't bolus quite as much as normal upfront as I downloaded the carb details from Pizza Hut's website. I...

    Pizza on the pump

Well tonight I'm trying a combo with 40% straight up and 60% over 3 hours plus a temp basal of 120% for 4 hours Will see what my B is before bed and then maybe do a further temp basal. Always worry about night hypos though so might bite the bullet and do BG check at 3 am

    Pizza on the pump

I seem to be having big issues with takeaways on the pump. No matter how I bolus my BG is spot on 4-5 hours later so I go to bed and wake up with BG around 17  Tonight my brother wants to order pizza with us and I'm wondering how you would all handle pizza? maybe some tips will help me...

    bubbles in cartridge/infusion set

I haven't had any issues with bubbles so here's what I do incase it's of any help :) I store all vials of insulin (Novorapid) in the fridge EXCEPT the one I'm using to fill my cartridge. This is always kept at room temperature in a cupboard, upright and somewhere that doesn't get too much...

    Problems!!!!!!!

What length rapid d have you tried? I use 6mm Insets but when I tried 6mm steels it wasn't long enough. I am about to try 8mm and have since found many pumpers need longer steel according to diabetic forums. When are you having the high BG readins? Is there a pattern?
