    Absorption....

Have you tried your hips? This is my best area and is both out the way but absorption works very well. Also I like the area at the front above my waist but below my ribs. Not tried my bum yet but thinking that at some point I'll have to brave it!

Site hygiene- what do people do?

I shower just before my set change. If I have to do an unexpected set change I use an anticeptic wipe with aloe vera to clean the area. On removal I only use something if the site looks a little sore or bleeds a lot. Then I use a dot of savlon. Hope that helps :)

Pain on inserting and how to avoid bent cannulas

The Mio is supposed to be much better than the quickset so I would ask for some of those to try. The painful one you probably hit a small vein and that happens to us all at some point. Also make sure you don't push down as you insert as this increases chance of kinking.

    Pump user

Have a look at this site: http://www.inputdiabetes.org.uk/alt-insulin-pumps/kids-pumps/ There is a link to a workbook for children on pumps that might help to.

    I keep hitting blood capillaries

I would change to 6mm as a starting point and see how you get on.

    Exercise and Pump

There is also the RunSweet website which is very good and managed by a diabetic consultant interested in sports and pumping. I reduce by at least 50% and hour before. If I am walking the dogs I reduce by 80% half an hour to twenty minutes before. It's trial and error though depending on your...

    I keep hitting blood capillaries

Also where are you putting them? The stomach area is a lot more prone to this. Plus if you are inserting when you are hot it increases chances.

Had to Come Off Pump After 7 Weeks

No it increases the chance of kinking the cannula hugely and causing soreness. My friend on the vibe was also given this incorrect technique and she had issues until she stopped pushing on insertion. If you are lean and you push you are much more likely to hit muscle, causing pain. Just float...

To pump or not to pump that is the question?..

The best advice I can give you is not to even think about a pump right now. Why? Because it just might get your control better too quickly. I was quite like you at the same age and I decided to get my BG into better shape. Even though it's well known not one single doctor warned me about...

    No more pumping for now.

I am needle phobic and the Penmate is a device that screws onto the novopen and fires the needle in for you when you press a button. I couldn't manage anything else and it seems they haven't updated this device. Otherwise I'd be using 4mm, although not sure if you have to be super thin for those...

Had to Come Off Pump After 7 Weeks

@Auckland Canary the length of cannula is very important especially if you are thin. Your inset IIs should be 6mm not 9mm. If they are kinking when pulled out it could be your insertion technique or that you are hitting muscle. With an Inset II you should just float it on top of the skin as...

    No more pumping for now.

I had to use 8mm needles on mdi as that's the smallest the Penmate would take. Checked recently as thought by now they would do one for shorter needles but no such luck :(

Had to Come Off Pump After 7 Weeks

I'm on the vibe and there are some quality issues with the inset IIs. You may have had a bad batch. Did you try any from another box with a different batch number? Were the insets kinked when removed? What length cannula are you using and what body shape/build are you? I tried the Inset 30s...

    No more pumping for now.

I think that's a fantastic idea! The companies get away with cost cutting because nobody reports them to do anything about it. A little while ago I found a box of old insets (3 years older) and the difference in quality was obvious for anyone to see. Such a shame.

    No more pumping for now.

@Spiker and @donnellysdogs I'm really happy for you both!!! It's fantastic to be hearing the updates and how you are managing. It's helping me with moving forward on my pump holiday too. I know my hubby fels the pump makes life less intimate but he is also scared about my BG going high off pump...

Nonmetabolic Complications of Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Infusion: A Patient Survey

Candi-girl have you tried Tresiba on mdi? Also how long was your break for? I have also read sports massage in the pumping areas whilst on a break helps break down scar tissue.

    No more pumping for now.

Yes I will be going back to mdi for 2-6 months if I can. The longer I can hold out the better for healing my sites. I am already low carbing (less insulin bolus easier on sites), using bio oil every night and taking skin supplements. I'm hoping the break will be worth it :(

    No more pumping for now.

I'm not considering a pump holiday because I don't like the pump. I LOVE it and I'm devastated to be in this position. After 4.5 years of pumping, all in areas I never injected before and very careful rotation, my sites are starting to fail. The areas are tired and absorption is effected. I am...

Insets in bottom - tips please

I think that would be much easier with rapid Ds though as they are so much smaller. I leave the old set in until I'm sure new one is working so have to hold the inserter a distance away to stop the old set interfering with it. It's good in a way because it makes sure I space sites out well.
