    Blood sugars out of control

Having posted a reply to your message concerning numbness and tingling in the feet, this post gives me relevant information. I think you should seek medical advice on how best to manage your blood sugar. Once this improves, your feet stand a better chance. I had 20 years of poorly managed Type1...

    Treatment induced diabetic neuropathy???

Hi @laynecobain Have you spoken to a consultant about this? Would you say your control is generally good? It may be that adjustments can be made. If I get pins-and-needles I drink 500ml of water and it recedes. Numbness and tingling may be a different issue, but definitely worth checking out...

    I need a new plan

Thank you for the tag @ianf0ster I don't know of anyone who has had solely beta cells replaced so far. In 2013 I had a kidney/pancreas transplant, primarily because my kidneys were on their last legs. I was offered a pancreas transplant so that no further kidney deterioration would take place...

How can background retinopathy turn into significant retinopathy in 7 months

Sorry @ANTJE this should be directed to @Antje77

How can background retinopathy turn into significant retinopathy in 7 months

I have very good visual acuity in both eyes. If I look up at a bright blue sky, I am then aware of some scarring, but it is not as inasive as you might think. I posted in answer to @Antje77 's suggestion above and could have added that I still draw, paint, learn music, read, enjoy birdwatching...

How can background retinopathy turn into significant retinopathy in 7 months

Thank you @ANTJE here is the much more detailed account written in 2009 than the replies I have sent to @Soph895 ; One evening, in my first year at King’s [College, London], I was sitting at my desk, amazingly doing some work, when I was suddenly unable to see out of my right eye. It was as if...

How can background retinopathy turn into significant retinopathy in 7 months

In 1979 the ophthalmologist told me that if I didn't change my lifestyle I would be blind by the time I was 23> Thanks to him we both proved this to be inaccurate! I could say that that stament caused me the most deep depression I have ever experienced. Eyes are tougher than we realise, but...

How can background retinopathy turn into significant retinopathy in 7 months

@Soph895 I agree completely with @Antje77 's comment above in every respect. Judging by your other posting "Will my eyes get better....?" it shows there was already a problem spotted by the optician. Even after my eyes were lasered I was warned that I should keep as tight a control as possible...

Will my eyes get better? I feel my body is failing me

As @Pipp says, please go to the hospital. It's never an easy decision to make, but it was the best thing I did as a 20 year-old. I had a haemorrhage in my right eye and was so terrified that I ran to the A&E at King's College Hospital. I was also an outpatient there. Between that day and 1983, I...

    hypoglycaemia

Agreed @Antje77 I am only trying to point out that fat candelay absorption - something which took me years to realise. Enjoy the chocolate!

    hypoglycaemia

As you say @SimonP78 "non-optimal" applies to chocolate and any milk that isn't skimmed. I remember doing exactly this! But for other readers it's worth pointing out that chocolate, to say the least, is fatty and slows down absorption considerably. A chocolate bar will work eventually, but the...

Worried- type 3C diabetic and just been given antibiotics for an infection in my toe

My toes have always had relatively little room between, with the exception of the big toes. Consequently I have always been prone to itchy feet. As a result I keep athlete's foot powder next to the bed, which really helps. I hope yours continues to heal.

New diagnosis - Not sure what type

Hi @pinguwave and welcome to the forum. Unfortunately nobody is allowed to diagnose here. In view of your concerns and difficult situation, do you have any way of contacting your regional hospital? Here we can dial 111 and discuss symptoms, thus enabling us to be put through to a...

    Dapagliflozin being pushed on me

Hi @snoOopy I think it's worth pointing out that they cannot force you to take any drug. Thirteen years or so ago I was on the way to a diabetes clinic and I could see the hospital ahead of me. A car came out of a side road and damaged my passenger door. I was close to appointment time and had...

    hypoglycaemia

Good to see you again @kitedoc ! I am a little bemused by these findings, not because of the scientific information, but because of personal experience. From 1959 I used glucose tablets (which I hated!) Lucozade, or Ribena. Smetime in my 20s I started using whatever was to hand, which was most...
