    Freestyle libre waiting time

I had about 3 months (February-May of this year) between my consultant mentioning it and getting the libre starter kit. The training session I should have had was cancelled because of covid. I'm not sure if it's normally less than 3 months and they were holding off giving it to me without the...

Are you open about diabetes or embarrassed about it?

I'm open about my diabetes, it's part of who I am. Are you worried people will judge you?

    Confused by insulin on board

If I were correcting and I was in your situation (14.2, correction of 3 vs correction of 2 etc) I'd go for 2 units but I am insulin resistant when I'm high so I'd probably need an extra correction so would check my blood after the correction of 2 units. My pump would adjust the correction for...

    Confused by insulin on board

Hmm but in theory 2 units should have taken you down to 8.2, so on this occasion whether you had the 2 units or the 3 units isn't really relevant as the insulin you had didn't do what was expected. Do you have insulin resistance when you're high?

    Confused by insulin on board

How was your blood after the 2 units? Were you still high? My pump adjusts corrections if I have active insulin, do you have to manually adjust on yours?

    can anxiety impact blood sugar

I don't have GAD, so I don't have anxiety all the time but when I am anxious it definitely affects my BG levels. I use a temporary basal on my pump so I have 125% of my normal basal and typically I still run high

    Packed Lunch Ideas?

Crustless quiche/frittata is good for lunchboxes, you can put whatever meat/cheese/veggies you like in it, make a big one and it'll do lunch for a few days with some salad or by itself, you can heat it up or just have it cold :)

    Lactose Intolerance?

Could it be the caffeine in the drinks? I know that can cause spikes for some people. It might be worth trying some lactose-free milk or a plant milk to see if your BG still rises the same way (I think oat milk is quite carby though!) While lactose doesn't cause me to have BG rises doesn't mean...

    Lactose Intolerance?

Hi @CosmicOwl, I'm lactose intolerant but have never noticed an increase in my BG levels if I consume lactose. Have you noticed intolerance symptoms when consuming other lactose-containing foods?

Did I have diabetes a year before I was diagnosed?

I was like a bag of bones about 9 months before I was diagnosed, I looked gaunt and ill where I'd lost so much weight. Based on my own experience I'd say it's very likely you could have been diabetic at that point and not known. I was 9 when I was diagnosed, I don't know if that makes any...

Hi @Fransteven, Could it be that you're having compression lows from laying on your libre, rather than actual hypos?

    Sharps bins help

I have to take my full sharps bins to my GPs to dispose of, I request a new one on my prescription form as they were added to my repeat prescription. @MrsA2 my test strips go in the normal bin, on another thread some people said they put the used strips back into the empty tub before putting it...

Do Hand Sanitisers affect finger prick blood tests?

If the hand gel is still wet it'll affect the result. I didn't know and one time did a test before my hands were dry, the result was 0.5 :hilarious:

    Covid and diabetes

Hi @Scarlett-Rose, if it was me in your situation, I think what I would have to consider is what my partner and their family have been doing, where they have been going, who they have been seeing. If they've been going out, mixing with lots of people and not being particularly careful then...
