    Pump training what to expect?

I just keep mine in the bed next to me, you soon get used to it and can't imagine life without it. I do find the longer insets better though because I'm a real clutz and dropping it can be a bit sore on the shorter length tubing:nurse:

Your TOP ten songs ... yep, it's hard

So many songs, this is difficult. I've done them in alphabetical order because I can't choose. 1. A Little Time - The Beautiful South 2. Down In The Tube Station - The Jam 3. Fairytale Of New York - The Pogues and Kirsty Mac Coll 4. F**king Perfect - Pink 5. I'd Rather Go Blind - Etta James 6...

Claiming for everything I can get.

I have to confess I get Disability Living Allowance (DLA). I started claiming when I began having problems with the diabetes and have continued through the last 6 difficult years. It's not much but it sure helps. By the way it's now called PIP in some areas (it's being rolled out in stages) and...

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

I went on the DAFNE course before going on the pump, about 6 years ago. As it was more than 20 years since diagnosis there were a lot of changes I had missed, like it wasn't my fault I got diabetes which was what I was told when diagnosed. I would heartily recommend.

    HbA1c results not good

Hi, I understand exactly where you're coming from, I have large swings in blood sugars mainly because I have no hypo awareness so when conscious I will binge to come out of it and then swing high. I agree with the' know your enemy' part, my line was always 'knowledge is power'. Last year I...

    Hyperlipotrophy. Doing something about it.

I'm on a pump too but still getting lumps, although very small and not sore like my arms and legs, the human insulins only stopped the lipoatrophy not the hyperlipotrophy but it is not as prevalent with human insulin.

    Secret cure apparently!

They are working on producing islet cells which can then be transplanted into diabetics (the next step up from the current islet cell transplants) which would make the transplants more available as they wouldn't have to rely on cell donations. It is coming, although it's not a cure as such.One...

    Hyperlipotrophy. Doing something about it.

Hi, it does sound drastic but I totally understand it. I haven't injected in my arms for about 15-20 years and my legs for about 10 years and I still have very large fatty lumps there. I was originally told they should go if I stopped injecting there but obviously not!! I hope all goes well for...

Quick check - T1s in hospital

I've been in hospital a few times and it seems to depend on the hospital how they treat your diabetes. They will usually use their own BG meters, but are happy for you to use yours if you want to. They wont use yours. I've always been in for operations and haven't been in since having the pump...

    Help! What's wrong with me?

I had 3 weeks on CGMS which was great because it alarmed when I was heading low and gave me a chance to respond whereas normally I am away with the fairies before I know something is wrong. The problem is because I have stopped doing anything I dont have many hypos now, but if I am to return to...

    Help! What's wrong with me?

I'm not sure if anyone else has had this issue, although according to a Newcastle University study most diabetics lose their warning signs after a few years. I have had no hypo warning signs for a long time now. It took a long time and 3 hospitals to even work out why I kept passing out, but...

    Very hungry new Diabetic

Hi, I might not be much help but just have to say PLEASE don't buy 'diabetic' foods, they are more expensive and usually higher in fat!! For your sweet tooth try sugar free jelly which I love:p I'm sure there'll be loads of people better qualified than I along to give you other help and advice.
