Are we reurning to 'normal' too quickly.

Giving up on the war with this virus is what would be pure folly. The war is not one battle it is a series of battles. By slowing transmission we have saved life for sure. We have given time for better ventilation practices to be developed ,for drugs that mitigate fatality to be identified and...

Covid/Coronavirus and diabetes - the numbers

To be fair at the moment we just don't know what way this is going. The virus's infectivity rate at the moment does seem to have slowed. Is this down to lockdown measures we have taken ? Is it down to ones we are continuing to take, is there some immunological reason eg many more of us being...

Covid/Coronavirus and diabetes - the numbers

Yes but that was 500 000 without lockdown. As it stands there have been in the region of 60 000 excess deaths with nowhere near the total population exposed. Estimates seem to coalesce around the 10%mark . If that was so then 500 000 looks plausible. Also if we look at 1% fatality which seems to...

Covid/Coronavirus and diabetes - the numbers

Given that he predicted less than 10k deaths in the US ,to my lay man's eyes does that not blow any credibility out of the water all politics aside?

New to Forum - Morning Readins

From what I've read on here Metformin has only a small effect less than 1 point ish on your meter. It's your diet that has turned things around so give yourself a big pat on the back.

New to Forum - Morning Readins

Hi and welcome. You may indeed be able to get your morning readings lower but I think it's important to say where you are is not bad. When you look at the morning readings here they are on the whole very very good when Ch can be a bit dispiriting to those who no matter what they do will never...

Covid/Coronavirus and diabetes - the numbers

Hi All, I have been trying to understand the figures in the reports. Is anyone able to explain the hazard ratio .Is 1.0 the hazard ratio that a comparible individual without diabetes would have ?

Covid/Coronavirus and diabetes - the numbers

I think if you work and you shield without the letter you have no protection from being sacked.Tbh I'm not sure how protected you are even if you have the letter I have heard of people being told they'll be "let go " if they don't come in.

Covid/Coronavirus and diabetes - the numbers

I do wonder how statistically relevent 1.1 to 1 to 1.05 is to a lay man they sound pretty much the same and close to the 1.4 ish you already suggested for type 2 well controlled without co morbidities? @Lupf

Covid/Coronavirus and diabetes - the numbers

Thanks lupf for your inciteful help around the data. I realise that we might not like the findings sometimes but personally id rather know than not. Also I know that it's impossible to use any data to predict certainly any individuals outcomes the picture is to complex for that. The best that we...

Covid/Coronavirus and diabetes - the numbers

New article in the guardian today with diabetes data analysed. Here https://www.theguardian.com/society/2020/may/20/type-1-diabetics-type-2-coronavirus-nhs-study I would just say even at 3.5 % for type 1 remember that s 96.5% survival if you take 1% as the average mortality rate.

    Interesting study

Hi all, just did a very quick search so this may not be accurate but according to my info nearly 25% of over 65 in the USA and 17 % of the over 45 to 64 bracket are diabetic. These would seem to mitigate somewhat against the death percentages quoted as you'd expect nearly a quarter to be...

    Hba1c result

As others have stated Metformin only gives minor support and in no way should anyone on any medication feel that their success in reversing the climbing of blood sugar levels is any less valid than anyone elses. We all have our own individual struggles our own targets and can choose our own...
