Type 1 Carb counting is hard!

It is hard. My ratio definitely changes throughout the day. I was only diagnosed a few weeks ago and haven't figured out my ratios properly yet. I also low carb and have found that meals with little or no carbs still need a bolus. In fact, more so than a meal with a moderate amount of CHO...

    Confusing reactions to insulin

My DSN told me not to be afraid to experiment (within reason). So I have been! Sometimes things work and sometimes not. But I gather from this forum that this can often be the case with t1d regardless of experience and knowledge!

    Confusing reactions to insulin

I haven't been able to work out my ratios yet. My DN suggested 2 units/10 g of carbs since I'm a bit fat. I've been working on that basis although it seems to be excessive in the evening. I've also asked 2 units/1 mmol but this doesn't seem to work for my evening meal dose! [emoji58]

    Confusing reactions to insulin

This could explain why my BG dropped so much more with the only meal where I had a significant amount of carbohydrate. Perhaps I'll try introducing slightly smaller amounts of carbs at breakfast and lunch! BG 3 hours after dinner (now) was 5.1.

    Confusing reactions to insulin

Okay, so I am very new to this and my understanding and experience is limited. But... This morning when I woke up my BG was 6.7. I had 100g Greek yogurt (4g carb) and 5 units of novorapid. 2 hours later my BG was 6.0, and three hours later it was 6.1. At lunchtime my BG was 7.1. I had...

    Correcting between meals

The waking up at night is kind of impractical at the moment, as my baby son is still in our room and if I wake him up no one will be going back to sleep. I'll try testing a coupe of hours after meals tomorrow. When I've had hypos they've been around 2 hours dosing, so I assume this is when my...

    Correcting between meals

The apple idea came from my DN: I was told not to go to bed with a BG below 6.5, and to have an apple or banana if below. I guess this doesn't work so well for me! I'm still adjusting my basal to bring down my baseline, although I don't seem to be increasing too much overnight, for the most...

    Correcting between meals

This is yesterday, which was a pretty good day! [emoji3] Woke up: BG 7.1, had yogurt and walnuts for breakfast (5g carbs) and 5u novorapid. Lunch time: BG 7.6, had chicken salad (5g carbs) and 4u novorapid. Tested before I drove home from work and BG was 7.1. Dinner: walked the dog and...

    Correcting between meals

Hi all I was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago and I am very much still getting the hang of things. I was told by my nurse only to take my bolus 3 times a day with meals, however I've been reading Think Like A Pancreas he mentions taking correction doses if high between meals. What do you...

    What's your daily routine?

Hi! I'm very new to this, but my current routine is: 6.30 test, bolus, breakfast then off to work 12.30-ish test, bolus, lunch 17.00 test for drive home 18.00 walk the dog for 1 hour or so 19.30 test, bolus, dinner 10.00 basal 11.00 test, snack if necessary, sleep Likewise weekends isn't quite...

    Injection site bruising

My wife jokingly suggested getting a clock face tattooed on either side of my abdomen and injecting on the hours - now I'm actually thinking it may not be the worst idea in the world! [emoji23]

    Injection site bruising

I've been alternating left and right sides of my stomach, any suggestions how to keep track of where I'm injecting, other than drawing a picture? I haven't been told about injecting anywhere other than my stomach.

    Injection site bruising

I'm currently using 6mm needles - the injections don't hurt and the bruises aren't sore at all. I haven't really been rotating injection sites properly, more jabbing at random!

    Injection site bruising

This may be a silly question but is it normal to have bruising at injection sites? I was diagnosed just over a week ago and I've noticed some quite large £2-coin sized yellowish bruises appearing on my stomach. Am I doing something wrong or is this just a normal consequence of multiple daily...

    Getting it right

Hi all I'm now a week in to my diagnosis. My blood sugar is mostly around the 9mmol mark now, having been in the high teens and twenties last week. I've only got low levels of ketones in my urine now as well. I've been a low carber for several years (I used to be quite fat and lost a lot of...

    (Another) Newly diagnosed type 1

Hi, another 'old' T1 here, diagnosed on Friday aged 32 as well! I'm still trying to get to grips with everything myself, think it will take some time to learn!

    Diagnosed Type 1 in October

Hi, I was diagnosed on Friday. Think I'm still coming to terms with it but I'm feeling okay. Looking forward to feeling well again actually, after months of feeling rubbish. Hope you get on okay. I found this forum virtually straight away and I'm feeling more reassured having read some of the...

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind. Doesn't seem like they want to come very much at the moment anyway!

    Diagnosed Type 1 yesterday!

Thanks all, it's great to know that there is so much support about. I'm still trying to get to grips with the whole basal-bolus thing, and I actually don't mind the injections at all!
