    Hyperlipotrophy. Doing something about it.

Thanks Anthony, I'll certainly save his name. One other issue that my Diabetes Consultant at Kings College London raised was that the scar tissue left after the op wouldn't be able to absorb insulin so the entire operation field would thereafter have to be excluded as a potential injection...

    Hyperlipotrophy. Doing something about it.

Congratulations! I'm so glad the op worked for you. Last year I made various enquiries about the possibility of having small areas of hyperlipotrophy removed from my stomach by liposuction, for re-use in remodelling my breast after cancer surgery that was scheduled for later in the year. I...

It's sad you managed to hurt yourself, twice, and strangely when you weren't busy doing anything particularly dangerous or violent. You must have been fitting and contorting when you fell in the river. Lucky you didn't drown though! I've had so very many hypos in such varied circumstances that...

@chrisopher I think @AndyS mentioned Kings Cross in an earlier post (and @Flowerpot another station), & I too recall a bad hypo that ended with me sitting against a pillar or glass wall on that vast smooth floor, being attended to by a kind man in uniform. I think he was railway staff rather...

Does the proliferation of technology, information and forums encourage obsession?

I've had similar thoughts @tim2000s but I've come to the conclusion that since managing diabetes well (T1 especially) requires unusual discipline and an unnatural focus on controlling levels and measuring quantities etc, it just isn't humanly possible to avoid sometimes being rather obsessive if...

Kelp noodles and other carb alternatives

How about aubergine/eggplant/brinjal? Delicious roasted, fried, steamed, eaten on it's own or used to make a sandwich with a range of fillings. It's low carb, tasty and filling.

    Worst place....

Yes, could be high on the embarrassment scale, but also one of the best places on the safety scale, considering the help you'd get from the attention of other concerned parents and the security of a nice soft padded place to collapse.

    Am I being too controlling?

It sounds to me like you @RyansMum are doing very well and giving him the best care you can in a difficult situation. It is not easy to accept a T1 diagnosis at any time, and particularly difficult when you are a teenager who is typically facing other body and image changes as well as identity...

Thanks @Debloubed, I'm not scheduled to have another check up with my consultant til year end so hopefully will have made up my mind to try something new by then (unless more new and exciting wire free tiny gadgets are on the horizon to distract me - a perennial problem for procrastinators! ;)

Re the pleasurableness of hypos what I meant to say was that some of the insights I’ve had while hypo have seemed so clear, vital even - real meaning of life stuff - focussing on what is essential or valuable in this life as a corollary of the realization that still being alive is hugely...

Thank you @Debloubed @himtoo @Flowerpot, I’m doing OK, living as best I can despite repeated hypos with no warnings. I don’t have a CGM but have trialed a Medtronic some years ago and loved it, but my PCT in Brighton and Hove and/or Consultant at Kings College London aren’t willing to give me a...

My most recent bad hypo involved having to starve overnight before surgery then accidentally overdoing my short acting insulin, which resulted in a hypo just as I was being prepped for surgery. Because I have no visible hypo symptoms I seemed perfectly OK despite a very low BG reading, so the...

Who saw the channel4 programme on GLP-1 drugs?

Infuriating that yet again public broadcasts include not one word differentiating T1 from T2. We're all just 'Diabetics', one single amorphous mass of obese people. Statistics quoted by doctors are absolutely meaningless if they don't specify their sample group.
