Type 1 Newly diagnosed being offered DAFNE & pumps??

Hi, I am somewhat annoyed because a lady I work with has been put on to a DAFNE course and has also been offered the pump. She was only diagnosed in September last year yet is being offered these already - I have been diabetic over 11 years now and have never had such opportunities. I know 11...

Wrong insulin injected :( advice asap!

Thanks for all your replies!! I live alone so i was texting a friend who persuaded me to go to A&E, just incase anything was to happen! They kept an eye on me for about 5 hours and let me go once my blood levels started to rise again :) What i found really strange was that for the 35 units i...

Wrong insulin injected :( advice asap!

Hi All, I'm feeling terrified right now as i've just injected 35 units of novorapid rather than levemir. 35 is a lot for me - i normally take 20 units maximum a day.. I share a house so i'm just in my room and if anything was to happen noone would realise until i didn't show up for work. I...

    Regaining control of diabetes/Denial

Hi, Im kind of in the same situation - missing injections and eating anything, without checking blood levels. I was diagnosed in 2002 and 21 years old now, so have been diagnosed a while, but it does feel like denial and yours sounds like it! After trying to get back on track a few times though...

    Radiography course interview

Hello, I have an interview for a course in diagnostic radiography in the morning and was wondering.. should i tell them about my diabetes (T1)? :S I don't think there's any issues with diabetic radiographers but i know that if i get accepted onto the course i have to pass a health screening...

    Neuropathy? :(

Hi all, I'd be grateful for some advice on this.. I really hope this isnt diabetes-related but i've been getting a numb feeling in my right foot. It started off in the area next to the ball of my foot (below the 3 miidle toes) and gradually, over about 3 days, moved along the side to my ankle...

Need help/Someone to talk to - struggling to cope.

I imagine it would be a lot harder to talk to your DSN about it with your parents there. Could you tell them you want to speak to the DSN by yourself first about a 'personal matter' or something? i'm sure they wouldn't mind! Then if you manage to tell her about it, when you speak to your parents...

Need help/Someone to talk to - struggling to cope.

Hi Sophie, I really can relate to your post - i'm 20 and have just passed the 10 year mark too! Although its not the same, i have to admit to frequently skipping injections because of weight issues. In my experience it just seems impossible to be able to talk to my diabetes team about it as i...

correction doses of insulin - how do i work out?

Hi, I have also recently started carb counting after just guessing for years! From what i've been told 1 unit of fast-acting insulin should decrease your blood sugar by about 3mmol. But it varies from around 1 - 5mmol depending on the individual. So maybe adding 1 unit per 1 mmol is right for...

    levemir

Hi :) i take it you split your levemir dose? personally i try to inject aat the same time every night +/- an hour so i think you'll be fine, but hopefully someone will correct me if its different for split doses :) i have one daily dose and always say i 'inject before bed', which is normally...

    High sugar reading!

Thanks for the advice :) i'll stick to lower-carb meals from now on! Pneu - i didn't think about fat content having an effect.. i had chippy chips so they were obviously high fat!! Just checked again and its now 26 so i'm going to have to inject some more and try to stay awake for a few more...

    Horrific Moods!

I get similar moods to this but only when my sugars are low - it puts me in such a bad mood and i get angry and peed off at everything!! I avoid talking to friends and family while i'm like this so i dont go offending them! Surely your mum undersatands its your sugars affecting your mood and you...

    High sugar reading!

I had quite a carby meal for dinner tonight (~130g..) but injected 16 units novorapid to cover it (usually 1 unit per 8g carbs). I checked my sugars 3 hours after eating and it was 23, so i injected another 6 units. checked my sugars 50mins after that and its now 25! I'm not sure if i should...

keeping track of all the different ratios

Not a very useful comment, but i didn't realise ratios changed for each meal! Started carb counting in december and have been struggling with why my sugar levels go low after lunch but no other meal!! thanks for the insight :)

Type 1 + crazy weight gain

Hi, i'm type one diabetic - have been for 10 years now - but for the past week i've been trying to get my blood sugar under control. I'm eating a reasonably healthy diet, with no more than 2000 cals a day yet i've gained almost a stone in 1 week!? I'm using the carbs and cals app to monitor cals...

    Suffering!?

I'd say 'suffer' is correctly used .. we constantly have to inject/control our diet because of diabetes and its not exactly easy or normal, and the complications are not pleasant. :? I'm afriad i have to agree with viv!

    Not taking insulin with meals

Without any insulin you're body would get it's energy from the breakdown of fats and protein in your body - which would release ketones into your blood, ultimatley leading to diabetic ketoacidosis.. soo yes, you would collapse eventually! excellent point by smidge though :P

    False Hypos

Hi artyfarty30 and welcome to the forum :) By 'false hypo' do you mean you experienced the symptoms of a hypo but your sugar levels were actually fine? as i've never heard of that term before! As you are recently diagnosed type 1 your blood sugars will have been running high for some time, so...

    crazy control

Wow, that sounds like an awful time! I'm glad you gto it sorted :) My problem could be similar to yours although my blood sugar seems to be fine throughout the night - it is mainly in the afternoon that my problems are. I thought maybe to reduce my morning bolus but my doctor has said to...
