"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

I love how she's still around with Five Guys burgers or a pretty dish with fishes. Small 'hello's like little presents. Yesterday I had a quick meal of a pork chop fried with onions, bell pepper and oyster mushrooms. On Goonergals fishy plate. The plan was to have the pork chop with...

Newly diagnosed T1 following hospital admission of DKA last week.

Hi @Mlish67 , Welcome to the club! Please ask anything you want to know. Being a newly diagnosed T1 is a steep learning curve, but the more you understand, the better you'll do. I was diagnosed almost 9 years ago (albeit without the DKA thankfully). Take your time learning and stay curious. ;)...

    Stomach pain with LADA

Hi @Andrea Mellor , welcome to the forum. Do you test your blood glucose? What kind of numbers do you see? The treatment for LADA is insulin, although it can take a while before you need it, and metformin can help a bit until you need insulin. However, if your blood glucose is normal and you...

    Mmol

Your graph looks like your hba1c went from 80 to 62 mmol/l. Which is an amazing improvement, well done! It is also still in the diabetic range and you'll likely want to see how you can lower it a bit more. Apart from metformin, what changes have you made so far to see such a significant...

    Online Chat Room

So do I, most of the time, and there are exceptions even in Fb groups. But I reacted to someone who'd like a place to discuss 'topics and discussions, points of view not allowed here'. I'm well aware of what is and isn't allowed here, and our forum ethos/rules are there for safety and to keep...

    Blood sugars

Ah, I've had a look around your older posts and if I'm correct you're on Abasaglar long acting insulin only. Most T1's use two types of insulin so they can adjust the doses for their meals. With you being on long acting only, it looks like you're (treated as) a T2 on insulin. So please ignore...

    Libre 2 Plus sensor covers

I use Hypafix Transparent, which comes rolled up, 10 meters x 10 centimeters, lasts me for ages and they usually stick for the full two weeks.

    Online Chat Room

Are you on Facebook? There are lots of groups on diabetes where almost anything goes.

    Blood sugars

I see you're a T1 on insulin. Many people need more insulin for the same amount of carbs earlier in the day than in the evening, and some need a little extra for dawn phenomenon or foot on the floor effect as well. Depending on which basal you use, it can also be that it's running out if you...

Super low carb but high blood suagrs

Many of us have found we do need insulin for protein, especially when eating very low carb.

Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Y'all use different numbers over there. So in case you'll decide to use a glucose meter or want to be able to understand 'our' numbers on hba1c (the result from the hospital test telling you something about your average blood glucose over the past 3 months), here's a conversion table between US...

    Still finding this so difficult

This is how I've dealt with very strong depressed and sometimes suicidal feelings for years. For me it was a very good approach. Wish you all the best once again!

We need to talk about chronic stress... visceral fat... poor sleep.

I the UK I believe T1's do get better treatment, like CGM on prescription.

We need to talk about chronic stress... visceral fat... poor sleep.

Did they test for all antibodies or just the GAD ones? I'd want a C-peptide test in your case: Not overweight, being ill with ketones upon diagnosis, needing a low amount of insulin are all reasons to want to look into other possibilities than T2.

    Diabetes and CKD progression

Those numbers are right where they should be if I'm correct. Have you been diagnosed with CKD?

    CGM READINGS

Because you need to scan the sensor to start it. I'm assuming you got up at 4:40 this morning.

    Mmol before bed

I'd say it's somewhat dependent on medication. Some T2's are on medication that can cause hypos, like gliclazide or insulin, and in that case they'd likely want a bit of a safety buffer to prevent lows. According to your profile, you're on metformin only, is this correct? Metformin doesn't...

    Lantus still the go-to basal?!

I like Tresiba much better than Lantus, much more stable. And the penfills fit your Novopen Echo.

    Libre 2 and painful arms

Have you tried using something oily (baby oil, olive oil, whatever type of oil or even butter you have at home) to slowly work it off? You're not in a hurry, just take your time while you're in your chair anyway. I'm more of a just rip it off type of person, but then, my skin is a couple of...
